Amanda Bonsall, born and raised in Derbyshire studied for her Bachelor of Music with Honours at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire under the guidance of Rita Cullis, Julian Pike and Paul Wingfield. Having been a member of ‘Voices – The City of Derby Girls’ Choir’ for many years, she has travelled across Europe singing with the choir in renowned venues such as Notre Dame, La Madeleine, Cologne Cathedral, Florence Cathedral and St Vitus Cathedral. She recently won first place in the ‘Musical Theatre’ and ‘Student Recital Class’ at Derby Arts Festival and regularly performs lunchtime recitals at Derby Cathedral.
During her time at the Conservatoire, she has been in the chorus for many operas and scenes, most notably; Otello by Verdi, flower maidens chorus from Parsifal by Wagner and L’Elisir D’amore by Donizetti. Amanda has played the roles of Suzy in Puccini’s La Rondine and Ellen from Lakmé by Delibes in the annual opera scenes. In March 2017, she performed the role of Marcellina for the Conservatoires Spring Opera – Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart. Over summer 2017, Amanda attended Abingdon School for Solo singers in Oxford, where she sang to acclaimed vocal tutors and directors such as Margaret Humphrey Clark, Robin Bowman and John Ramster. She also took part in a Masterclass with Dame Felicity Lott while studying at Abingdon and Roderick Williams at the Conservatoire in April 2018.
In February, Amanda performed Louise in La Vie Parisienne by Offenbach, conducted by Michael Seal. Amanda project managed and performed within her version of the opera Lo Speziale by Haydn in March 2018, conducted by Giannis Giannopoulos at St Alban Church, Birmingham.
Most recently, Amanda was a finalist in The Mario Lanza Opera Prize 2018 adjudicated by Susan Bullock held at The Royal Conservatoire in June 2018.
