Cathy Alghabra is a versatile high mezzo-soprano with a wide vocal range. She studied in Cardiff majoring in vocal performance, winning scholarships and prizes throughout her studies with John Hugh Thomas. Now based in London, she freelances professionally for choral ensembles, churches and oratorio. Cathy is a permanent member of the professional octet at Holy Redeemer Clerkenwell (Alto 1), is a core member of the award-winning Epiphoni Consort (Soprano 2) who are signed to Delphian Records. She is also regularly engaged as an oratorio soloist, for weddings and bespoke gigs. Alongside her classical work, she performs a capella jazz and pop. She is under the tutelage of Ghislaine Morgan.
Cathy has appeared as a soloist for many choirs live on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio Wales. Oratorio highlights include Esenvalds Passion and Resurrection, Mozart Requiem, Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle, Duruflé Requiem, Faure Requiem, Chilcott Requiem, Rutter Requiem, Haydn Nelson Mass, Haydn Maria Theresa Mass, Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music, Rutter Mass for the Children, Tippett’s Five Negro Spirituals. She has also held chorus roles in Bizet's The Pearl Fishers with Dorset Opera and Puccini's Madama Butterfly at Dartington.
Professional choral singing has taken her worldwide, including to South Korea, Mexico, Europe and Wider Europe, performing in festivals and at venues such as the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Konzerthaus Berlin. Cathy has performed in top UK concert venues including Barbican, Royal Albert Hall, Milton Court, St David’s Hall, Wales Millennium Centre, Town Hall Symphony Hall Birmingham. As a choral professional she also has experience in session recording including at Air, RAK, Angel and BBC Maida Vale studios, live television and radio broadcasts, with the BBC, Channel 4 and labels including Universal Music, Naxos, Delphian Records, Chrysalis Records and Decca.
