Music OMH: Claire Egan is outstanding. Her voice combines a degree of richness with a glistening, shimmering quality that reveals great nuance in sound, excellent phrasing and some wonderful pianissimos towards the top of her register. Her achievement is made all the greater by the fact that the direction is physically demanding as, for example, she sings part of ‘Sempre libera’ embracing Alfredo as they both lie horizontally on a table. Claire Egan was born in Gisborne, New Zealand. She trained at The Cardiff International Academy of Voice under Dennis O’Neill, and as an English National Opera, Opera Works Artist. In 2019 Claire will make her role debut as Donna Elvira, Don Giovanni with Longborough Festival Opera, and cover Woglinde, Das Rheingold.
Recent highlights include performing the role of Violetta, La Traviata (Longborough Festival Opera); Waldvogel, Siegfried (The Mastersingers) and cover Violetta in Deborah Warner’s production of La Traviata for Theatre des Champs Elysées, Paris. Cordelia, Lear (Hungarian State Opera); Ariel - sung voice/Der Sturm (Salzburg Festival) and The Babysitter, Between Worlds (English National Opera).
For smaller U.K. companies, roles performed include; Konstanze, Die Entführung aus dem Serail; Gretel, Hansel & Gretel; Gilda, Rigoletto; Donna Anna, Don Giovanni; Queen of the Night & Pamina, Die Zauberflöte and Musetta, La Boheme.
Claire began training as a singer after being discovered on the ABC television show Operatunity Oz (2007) - before this she worked as a guitar maker in Sydney.
