Edmond began his love of music from an early age after being cast as a Royal Child in in 1990. During this same year he was accepted into the Australian Boys Choral Institute and it was here where his thirst for musical knowledge began. By the time Edmond completed his secondary schooling at Haileybury College, he had taken studies in piano, trombone, French horn, euphonium, oboe, percussion and voice.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Music Performance from the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne in 2008, Edmond was offered a position within Opera Australia’s full-time chorus where he remained for three years.
During his time at Opera Australia, Edmond performed and covered many minor principal roles including Hadji (Lakmé), Monsieur Taupe (Capriccio), Ballad Singer (Of Mice and Men), Faninal Major-Domo & Footman (Der Rosenkavalier), Guiseppe (La Traviata), Postillione (La fanciulla del West) and Señor & Alchemist (Candide).
Edmond also performed for the state company Victorian Opera as Liberto & Seneca’s Friend in their Green Room award winning production of The Coronation of Poppea (2008) and was the lead role of MacHeath in a combined Oz Opera/University of Melbourne production of The Beggar’s Opera (2004).
In 2013, Edmond covered the role of Lord Percy in Anna Bolena with Welsh National Opera (WNO). He also performed in the choruses of both the Royal Opera House (Parsifal) and Opera Holland Park (Madama Butterfly, Les pêcheurs de perles, I gioielli della Madonna).
Most recently in 2014, he performed with WNO in their production of Schoenberg’s Moses und Aron in the role of Naked Youth. In early-August, he performed with Swansea City Opera in A Night of Romantic Opera in Porthcawl, Wales and in September, returned to WNO to cover the role of Arnold in Guillaume Tell.
WithIn the UK, Edmond has been a semi-finalist for the Kathleen Ferrier Award (2013) and finalist for the National Opera Studio programme (2012/13). In Australia, Edmond was a semi-finalist in the Joan Sutherland & Richard Bonynge Bel Canto Award (2011), a reserve finalist for the McDonald’s Aria Competition (2010), semi-finalist for the Herald Sun Aria Competition (2009) and finalist for the National Liederfest (2007). He has also been recipient of the Ian Maxwell scholarship, the Robert Salzer Scholarship and the Mabel Kent Memorial Singing Scholarship.
