Brighton born Florence Carruthers recently graduated from the University of Leeds with a BMus Performance degree. She spent her third year at the Académie Supérieure de Musique de Strasbourg, where she had voice lessons with Marie Kobayashi, following tuition from internationally renowned dramatic soprano Rachel Nicholls and repertoire coaching Martin Pickard. Florence made her opera debut in 2013 as a member of the Glyndebourne Community Opera Imago. She has since then performed in Le comte Ory and Faust (2017 Dorset Opera Festival), Le Nozze di Figaro, The Mikado, The Pirates of Penzance, The Magic Flute and Carmen (Leeds University Opera Society), and recently played Fidalma from Il matrimonio segreto as part of the National Opera Studio’s ‘Introduction to Opera: Short Course’. Recent Master-classes Florence has participated in include Dame Ann Murray, Susan Bullock, Mary Bevan, Louise Alder, Joseph Middleton, Paul Nilon, Gillian Keith, Robin Bowman and Peter Holman.
