Grace Curtis graduated in 2018 from her undergraduate in music and philosophy at the University of Southampton, where she founded and managed the Southampton Chamber Opera Company, held a choral scholarship as a member of Cantores Michaelis and worked with Romsey Abbey as their resident soprano and chorister tutor. She then attended the Italian International Summer School for Singers, receiving tuition from Roberto Fantinel, Roberta Canzian and Francesca Scaini. Whilst there, she performed the role of Despina in scenes from ‘Cosi fan Tutte’ and performed solo pieces in a concert in Conegliano, Italy. She was a finalist for the Isobel Buchanan Award. She began her master’s in Advanced Opera Performance at the RWCMD’s David Seligman Opera School in 2018, where she holds a Leverhulme Trust scholarship and studies with Suzanne Murphey. In 2019, she was nominated for the Dora Stoutzker Prize, a finalist for the Janet Price Prize and awarded ‘highly commended’ in the Valetta Iacopi Prize and attended a British Youth Opera course with Stevie Higgins and Martin Lloyd-Evans. She performed the roles of Emmy (Albert Herring) and Gianetta (The Gondoliers) with the RWCMD and Barbaina in Somerset Opera’s ‘Marriage of Figaro’ whilst covering the role of Marzelline in the Welsh National Opera’s ‘Fidelio’. She looks forward to her upcoming role as Pamina in 2020.
