Spanish soprano Guiomar Cantó began studying music and piano at a very early age, under the guidance of Professor Don Manuel Carra. She obtained her singing degree from the Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid and graduated with a degree in Law and Business Administration and Management from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
She has done advanced studies in the United States, Italy, Austria and the United Kingdom with renowned figures such as Virginia Zeani, Dolora Zajick, Barbara Bonney, Mariella Devia, Isabel Rey, Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Giulio Zappa, Ettore Papadia, Carlos Aransay, Raúl Giménez, Francisco Araiza, Carlos Chausson, Alberto Zedda and Miguel Ángel Arqued. She is currently perfecting her vocal and repertoire studies under the direction of Maestro Luca D'Annunzio, in accordance with the technical, aesthetic and philosophical guidelines of the Italian Romantic School.
She made her international debut in 2014 at the Bel Canto Festival in Bad Wildbad, Germany, singing Corinna in Rossini's Il Viaggio a Reims, directed by Antonino Fogliani. Her participation in the festival included the premiere of the Cantata Il voto filiale de Rossini at the Königliches Kurtheater with pianist Michele D'Elia and the recording of the role of Delia in Il viaggio a Reims for the record label Naxos.
Her most recent performances include the High Priestess in Aida by G. Verdi in Lausanne, Switzerland, with the Orquestre Musique des Lumières conducted by Facundo Agudín; Girl in Trouble in Tahiti by L. Bernstein at the Festival Lírico de Otoño in Vigo with the orchestra Vigo 430; Violetta in La Traviata by G. Verdi at the Amaia Theatre in Irún with the Luis Mariano Orchestra conducted by Aldo Savagno; among other performances at the Teatros del Canal in Madrid, at the Teatro Principal in Logroño, at the Teatro Principal in Castellón and at the Tenerife Auditorium.
In 2017 she was awarded the Prize for Excellence at the Hariclea Darclée International Competition in Romania; in 2016 she received the Ferrer-Salat Prize at the Francesc Viñas Competition and was a finalist in the third edition of the Enzo Sordello lyrical competition in Cuneo, Italy. In 2015 she received the prize awarded by the Asociación Amigos de la Opera de Madrid to perform a recital as part of their annual concert programme and in 2012 she was awarded the Ángel Vegas scholarship by the Juventudes Musicales de Madrid and Amigos de la Ópera to extend her studies.
Her operatic repertoire includes Königin der Nacht and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte; Corinna in Il viaggio a Reims; Adina in L'elisir d'amore; the High Priestess in Aida; Gretel in Hänsel and Gretel; Micaela in Carmen and Antonia in Les contes d'Hoffmann. She has debuted the following roles in the zarzuela repertoire: Teresa in Don Quintín el Amargao; Visita y Nieves in El Bateo; Rosaura in Los Gavilanes; Susana in La verbena de la Paloma; La Antonelli in La Africana and Tecla in El chaleco blanco.
This summer she participed in The New Generation Festival in Florence, covering Donna Anna in Don Giovanni.
