Originally from Montreal, Canada, Jean-Pascal started his theatre studies at the age of eight, at the Montreal Children’s Theatre, where he performed in Disney plays such as Pinnochio and Snow White.
Aged ten, he was chosen to be part of the world renowned boys choir, Les Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal where he began his vocal and musical studies. In 1994, he continued his theatre studies at the reputed Cours Florent in Paris. In 1995, he was accepted at the McGill University’s Faculty of Music from which he obtained, in 1998, his Bmus in vocal performance. It was during his University studies that Jean-Pascal began his professional singing carreer as a baritone in both the Montreal Opera chorus, under Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Charles Dutoit.
In the summer of 2000, he attended the Daniel Ferro summer vocal program in Greve, Italy. In 2001 he attended the Vlaanderen Opera Studio in Gent, Belgium where he sang the role of Tarquinius the Vlaaderen Opera production of The Rape of Lucretia in Gent, Antwerp and Bruges. It was there that he was then invited to pursue his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England, where he performed the title role in their production of Don Giovanni.
In 2002, he auditionned in London and was chosen to sing the role of Shaunard in Baz Luhrmann’s production of Puccini’s La Boheme on Broadway and in Los Angeles, where, in 2004, he received a Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Award.
In the summer of 2008, he attended the Chautauqua vocal program, where he began to retrain as a tenor, with Marlena Mallas, and where he sang his first tenor roles, as le petit vieillard in l’Enfant et le Sortilèges and Triquet in Eugene Onegin. Later that year, he emmigated to the UK where he now resides and in 2009 sang the role of Gastone in the European Chamber Opera’s production of La Traviata on tour in Koweït.
Following many years away from the stage, to pursue teaching opportunities, he returned to the stage in 2016, in the role of Panatellas, in the Opéra de Baugé’s production of La Périchole. In 2017, he created the role of Hermes in Tim Benjamin’s new oratorio Herakles and later that year returned to Baugé to sing Normanno in Lucia di Lamermoor . In 2018, he returned to Baugé to sing the role of Aristée/Pluton in their production of Orphée aux Enfers, created the role of Sigismund in Barry Webb’s new opera Nepomuk and recently created the role of the Rose-tree in John O’brien’s critically acclaimed new opera The Nightingale and the Rose on tour in Ireland.
