Krystal Macmillan is an Australian born soprano living in London. Throughout her life she has had a rich and varying musical background. From a young age her flair for performance was evident when she began ballet lessons at the age of three. Throughout her childhood and teens she learnt piano, flute, jazz and tap dance and participated in school choirs and concerts.
Krystal holds a Certificate IV in Music and a Bachelor in Music (Performance) from the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts and a Masters of Arts (Vocal Performance) from the Royal Academy of Music, London.
Krystal’s professional chorus work includes Don Carlo Verdi, Fiddler on the Roof Bock (BBC Proms), Eugene Onegin Tchaikovsky, Peter Grimes Britten, The Queen of Spades Tchaikovsky (Grange Park Opera), Cavalleria Rusticana Mascagni, Pagliacci Leoncavallo and Peter Grimes Britten (West Australian Opera).
Roles include Strawberry Seller-Oliver! Bart, Clorinda (cover)-La Cenerentola Rossini, Sandman-Hansel and Gretel Humperdinck at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Blanche-Dialogues of the Carmelites Poulenc, Susan-A Dinner Engagement Berkeley, Barbarina-Le Nozze di Figaro Mozart, Seamstress-The Happy Prince Williamson, Mary Warren-The Crucible Ward (West Australian Premiere), Josephine-HMS Pinafore Gilbert & Sullivan (scenes), Mélisande-Pélleas et Mélisande Debussy (scenes), Papagena-Die Zauberflöte Mozart (scenes), Costanza-Riccardo Primo Handel (scenes), Rodelinda-Rodelinda Handel (scenes), Susanna-Le Nozze di Figaro Mozart (scenes), Ilia-Idomeneo Mozart (scenes) and Miss Wordsworth-Albert Herring Britten (scenes).
Concert performances include soprano soloist in Requiem Mozart, Carmina Burana Orff, Elijah Mendelssohn, Stabat Mater Rossini, Requiem Fauré, Messiah Handel, Gloria Vivaldi, Magnificat, Christmas Vespers and Beatus Vir Monteverdi, Serenade to Music Vaughan Williams, Petite Messe Solennelle Rossini and Magnificat Pergolesi.
Whilst studying at the Royal Academy of Music, Krystal was generously supported by the Opera Arts Fund and the Josephine Baker Trust.
