Lauren was born on the Isle of Lewis, and brought up on folk music. A fluent Gaelic speaker, she
began competing in the Mòd at an early age, and went on to win awards at the National Mòd,
making numerous TV and radio appearances. Although she arrived at the University of St Andrews in 2013 to study Physics, she spent the majority of her time involved in musical activities, particularly as a scholar in the university’s chapel choir. With the choir she completed numerous recordings, TV/radio appearances, and appeared as a soloist on the choir’s 2017 tour to Sweden and for the St Andrews Voices Festival. She was also heavily involved in opera, both as a regular performer with the Byre Opera company, and as a founding member of the University of St Andrews Opera Society. Recent roles include Athamas (‘Semele’) and Miss Jessel (‘The Turn of the Screw’).
Lauren also has an interest in consort singing. She has performed with the
period performance specialist ‘Kellie Consort’ and the Edinburgh-based ‘Reid
Consort’. She has just completed an MA in ensemble singing under Robert Hollingworth in York.
Lauren has been fortunate to work with some distinguished singers and conductors, including Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Andrew Parrott, Marie McLaughlin, Peter Harvey, and Brian Bannatyne-Scott, among others. She currently studies voice with Alex Ashworth.
