Covered Covered & Performed Scenes Premiere of New Work Concert
This season Dutch soprano Maartje Rammeloo is invited back to sing at the Dutch National Opera, this time in one of her favorite opera’s: Les Contes d’Hoffmann by Offenbach in which she will portray Stella. Furthermore she will tackle the demanding 1st soprano part of the 8th symphony by Gustav Mahler and she will revisit the role of Adina in Donizetti’s l’Elisir d’Amore.
Past engagements include: Marzelline (Fidelio, Beethoven) and Pamina (Die Zauberflöte, Mozart) at the Aalto Theater Essen. Cunegonde (Candide, Bernstein) at the Nederlandse Reisopera, Lucy (The Telephone, Menotti) at the opera house in Göteborg, Sweden and 1. Blumenmädchen (Parsifal, Wagner) at the Dutch National Opera .
Furthermore Maartje played the role of Sharon in the play Master Class (T. McNally) about the legendary Maria Callas, and she made her debut at the Dutch National Opera as Prêtresse (Iphigénie en Tauride, Gluck), working with director Pierre Audi, conductor Marc Minkowski and Les Musiciens du Louvre. After which she was asked back to cover the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor working with conductor Carlo Rizzi and director Monique Wagemakers.
She was part of several newly created operas, one of which is The Tsar, his wife her lover and his head, about Tsar Peter the Great, which played at several operafestivals and she toured Europe with the new creation ‘Be With Me Now’ which premiered at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.
Over the years Ms. Rammeloo has succeeded in several competitions. She received the Staetshuys Fonds Prize at the International Vocal Competition in 's-Hertogenbosch and won the Jo Bollekamp Prize for most promising soloist during the Erna Spoorenberg Vocalist Presentation.
After this Maartje was prizewinner at the Hans Gabor Belvedère Competition and a finalist at the Montserrat Caballé Competition in Zaragoza and the Wilhelm Stenhammar Competition in Sweden.
As an exceptionally versatile soprano her performed repertoire ranges from the title role in Alcina (Händel) to Micaëla (Carmen, Bizet) and from Fiordiligi (Cosi fan tutte, Mozart) to Saffi (Der Zigeunerbaron, J. Strauss).
In addition to these opera roles, Ms. Rammeloo regularly performs as a soloist in concerts and oratorios, working with conductors such as Markus Stenz, Skip Sempé, Marc Albrecht, Jac van Steen, Tomáš Netopil, Anthony Hermus and Wouter Padberg.
Maartje studied both classical singing as well as musical theatre at the Fontys Conservatory in Tilburg where she received her master's degree (cum laude) specializing in Operetta and Classical Musical Theatre.
She took part in masterclasses by Montserrat Caballé, Raul Gimenez, Elly Ameling, Bernarda Finck, and at the Salzburger Mozarteum with Edith Wiens, among others.
For over 5 years Maartje studied with the world-renowned mezzo-soprano Jard van Nes. Nowadays, she works with American coaches Ira Siff and Peter Nilsson.
But her biggest passion, without a doubt, is teaching. For more than 15 years now Ms. Rammeloo is a well-respected and sought-after vocal coach with many successful students in (inter)national careers. She taught in several institutions among which her old alma mater, Fontys Conservatory where she still teaches the students of the Master of Music, Musical Theatre Classical.
