Australian mezzo-soprano Madeleine Sexton holds a Bachelor of Music from The University of Melbourne where she was awarded the Mabel Kent Scholarship and the Murial Creek Scholarship for excellence. She holds a Diploma in Acting from The Victorian College of Arts (Melbourne).
She has worked with companies and orchestras in Australia and the UK including Melbourne Opera, Hampstead Garden Opera, Bloomsbury Opera, Opera Brava, The COR and The Newbury Chamber Choir. Operatic roles include Amastris Xerxes, Satarino La Calisto, Sesto Giulio Cesare, Larina Eugene Onegin and Hansel Hansel & Gretel, Zerlina Don Giovanni), 2nd Lady Die Zauberflöte, Tessa The Gondoliers and Edith Pirates of Penzance.
In opera scenes Madeleine has performed roles including Ravel’s l'heure espagnole and Bernstein's Candide, Irene Theodora, Cherubino Le Nozze di Figaro, Carmen Camen, Nancy Albert Herring and Rhine Maiden Das Rheinhgold.
She has a particular love of concert and oratorio repertoire and recent performances include Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Handel’s Messiah, the Anthem for the Foundling Hospital and Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne and Bach’s Cantata Vergnügte Ruh.
She has performed recitals with Cord Garben (Australian National Academy of Music, Melbourne), Paul Fitzsimon (Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler", Berlin and National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne), Richard McGrath, Katie de la Matter and is one half of the new London based Art Song duo Mezzopiano with Richard Hetherington.
