Michelle Sugiarto, Soprano
Michelle Sugiarto was first introduced about Classical Music as a child through listening to Handel's Messiah recording. From then, she realized about her passion towards music and started studying voice and piano. With an agile vocal flexibility and attentiveness towards word painting in music, she is admired as a committed and probing singer.
Ms. Sugiarto closed her 2015 season with 2 oratorio performances, performing Handel's Messiah and Bach's Magnificat in D Major in collaboration with Masaaki Suzuki . Other previous notable Highlights of her performances include Faure’s Requiem, Haydn’s Nelson Mass, Handel’s Dixit Dominus, Buxehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri , and Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy under the baton of Maestro Jahja Ling.
The summer of 2012 at the Orford Arts Center, Canada marked her opera debut as Cherubino in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro under the baton of Jean Francois- Rivest. While studying at Manhattan, she continues to perform in various Opera Scenes Productions and Full Stage productions, singing the roles of Marzeline in Beethoven’s Fidelio, Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, the Philistine Woman in Handel’s Samson and Abra in A. Scarlatti’s La Giuditta.
As a Young Artist fellow at the 2011 American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, she participated in a master class conducted by Barbara Bonney. Other master classes she participated for the past 3 years include master classes by Anthony Roth Costanzo, Colenton Freeman and Francois Le Roux.
Michelle Sugiarto obtained her Bachelors degree at the New England Conservatory in Boston as a 2010 Merit Grant Award recipient, and her Masters degree at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, both majoring in Vocal performance.
