Monique Simone, is a 23-year-old Australian/German Mezzo-soprano.
Singing became Monique’s sole focus when she received a full scholarship to study classical voice, at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS). During her time at VCASS Monique had the opportunity to cover the role of Dido (Dido and Aeneas). She also performed as a soloist at the Melbourne Recital Centre, Federation Square and the Melbourne Arts Centre.
Monique moved from Melbournne to Perth, where she completed her Bachelor of Music at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), graduating with High Distinction for her final recital and an overall distinction average.
Whilst at WAAPA, she sung the roles of Galatea (Acis and Galatea) and Hippolyta (A Mid-Summer Nights Dream) under the baton of Richard Gill.
In addition, she was a participant in the WAAPA International Art Song Academy, where she worked with Dr. Graham Johnson OBE and renowned vocal coach Mary King. Monique was selected as a soloist, and performed with Graham Johnson in the Academy’s Gala Concert at Government House Ballroom.
Recent career highlights include: working with the West Australian Opera chorus, in Tosca and The Merry Widow at His Majesty’s Theatre this year. Monique had the pleasure of performing with full orchestra at Mark Coughlan's NYE Vienna Pops Concert, at the Perth Concert Hall, as one of the ‘6 Sopranos’ to a sold out audience. She also enjoyed bringing Opera to remote communities in performing concerts in Broome and Derby, as a soloist for Opera Under the Stars.
Notable awards received are: the North of Perth Music Festival’s Most Outstanding Senior Vocalist, and Perth’s Royal Overseas League Award for Young Singers.
Currently Monique is studying to obtain her Masters in Advanced Vocal Studies, at the exclusive Wales International Academy of Voice, under the tutelage of Dennis O’Neill CBE. Her studies are being partly supported by grants from the Ian Potter Cultural Trust, and the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA).
