Swiss bass Roger Krebs is an artist who puts his relationship with his
audience at the forefront. With his “quality voice, descended from the
rare genre of basso profondo” (Rhein Main Zeitung, 2016), he strives
to move audiences and deliver intense and authentic performances.
His roles in included Ramfis (“Aida”) at the Opernfestspiele Schloss Amerang and Don Basilio (“Il
Barbiere di Siviglia”) at the Skive Opera Festival in Denmark, during which he also took part in the premiere
of Jeppe Nörgaard Jacobsen’s opera “Hamlet” in the role of Polonius. Sarastro in “Die Zauberflöte” is a role
that Roger Krebs has the pleasure of performing frequently; in Hamburg with the Hamburger Symphoniker,
in Stuttgart, Augsburg and Mannheim with the Orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera under the direction
of Gergely Kaposi, and in Salzburg at the Oper im Berg Festival. Engagements during the 2015/16 season
led him to Sweden, where he gave a gala concert as a part of the 750 th anniversary of the Örebro
municipality and appeared as Dr. Grenville in “La Traviata” (conductor Marcello Motadelli) and Daland in
“Der fliegende Holländer” (conductor Michael Balke) with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra at the renowned
festival Opera på Skäret.

In previous years, Roger Krebs performed regularly at the Mecklenburgische Staatstheater in Schwerin
(Rocco, il Commendatore, Prince Gremin, Timur, Landgraf, etc.). He was also invited to the Thüringer
Schlossfestspiele to sing the role of Daland (directed by Toni Burkhardt, conductor Markus L. Frank), to
Theater Vorpommern Stralsund/Greifswald to sing the Hermit in “Freischütz”, and to Aachen, Mannheim,
Münster and the Münchner Biennale as part of Manuela Kerer’s interactive performance “Innen”. His “deep
and sonorous bass” (St. Gallen Tagblatt) has repeatedly caught the attention of the press.
Roger Krebs has received awards at many prestigious international singing competitions, among them the
Armel Opera Competition held in Budapest in 2017 (hosted by ARTE-TV and Armel), and the 2017
International Grandi Voci Singing Competition in Salzburg under the patronage of Grace Bumbry, at which
he was awarded second prize. He was also the third prizewinner at the 10 th International Vox Artis
Competition in Sibiu, Romania.
Since 2019 Roger Krebs is a member of the Schleswig-Holsteinisches Landestheater.
Roger Krebs received his training at the Mainz Conservatory of Music under the tuition of Sead Buljubasic.
He participated in masterclasses with renowned singers Kurt Moll and Harald Stamm, among others, and
took part in the Münchner Singschul at the Bayerische Theaterakademie. The bass took his first singing
lessons with Dennis Hall in Bern. Roger Krebs has been working together with David L. Jones since 2013.
Roger Krebs has collaborated with many renowned directors and conductors, among them Frank Hilbrich,
Henry Akina, Bruno Berger-Gorski and Wolfgang Quetes, as well as Ivan Törzs, Fabrizio Ventura, Markus
Frank and Axel Kober. Orchestras with which he has worked include the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, the
Thüringen Philharmonie and the Westfälische Philharmonie among others.
