Best Actress (2012)
"A glorious, soaring soprano voice and a technique that made the most of every note in every cadenza, plus the skill to convey the comedic or at times emotional content of the music. “Poor wandering one” and “Ah, leave me not to pine” in particular were exquisitely sung." - Bernard Riley, Wharfedale Festival (2018)
"Rowena Thornton was the soprano soloist, singing alone in four arias, as well as with the chorus in further pieces, and in the duet. The challenging arias from Rigoletto, Faust, and Die Fledermaus and the soloist contributions in the Easter Hymn and the Fantasia were performed with skill, sensitivity and panache and gave many opportunities for this versatile singer to display her fine, pleasant and wide ranging voice. " - David Alder, The Platform, Morecambe (2018) (2018)
"Leading lady Josephine is played by Rowena Thornton whose voice reaches notes I never knew existed." -Val Pennent, The Wharfedale Observer (2017)
The collector's item in the programme turned out to be the Cabaret Songs of Benjamin Britten to verses by W.H Auden. In 2013, Britten's centenary and a glut of his operas, these songs are a revelation. Soprano Rowena Thornton projected them with an undeniable sexiness and a wide spectrum of vocal colour. Jonathan Brigg's wonderfully idiomatic accompaniment shimmered with atmosphere and colour - a cabaret partnership made in Heaven! - Geoffrey Mogridge www.cantoresolicanae.org.uk/Reviews/2013%2006%20June%20Review.rtf (2013)
