Tayla Alexander – Soprano

New Zealand soprano Tayla Alexander is quickly establishing herself as a versatile artist with a warm lyric voice and an instinct for storytelling. She is currently completing her Master of Arts in Classical Voice at the Royal Academy of Music, where she is a Bicentenary Scholar and member of the Academy Song Circle, supported by the Dame Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation, the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, and the Drake Calleja Trust. In 2025–26, she joins the Accademia dell’Opera Italiana as a Studio Artist. Tayla brings to her performances an expressive sincerity and a curiosity for character and sound, qualities that shape her artistry across recital, opera, and recording.

She has performed a wide range of operatic and concert repertoire across New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and the UK. Highlights include Mimì (La bohème) and Rusalka (Rusalka) in Royal Academy Opera Scenes, Christine in Ken Hill’s Original Phantom of the Opera at Tokyo Orb Theatre, Alice/cover Countess (Le Comte Ory) with New Zealand Opera, and Hélène (Die Verschworenen) at the Lisa Gasteen National Opera Programme. She has also appeared in The Unruly Tourists (NZ Opera), Mozart’s Requiem with the Brandenburg Festival Choir, and Brahms’ Requiem with Auckland Choral.
On the competition stage, Tayla was a finalist in the 2025 Richard Lewis/Jean Shanks Award at RAM and the 2024 Lexus Song Quest, judged by Sumi Jo with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. She has also won major prizes in New Zealand, including the SAPACS Aria Competition and the Ronald Dellow Memorial Competition.

Alongside her classical career, Tayla has enjoyed significant entrepreneurial and commercial success. She released her debut album Songbird at age 10, which reached the top 10 of the New Zealand Independent Album Charts, and has since gained millions of streams worldwide. She also founded the Tayla Made Foundation, becoming the youngest person in New Zealand to establish a charitable trust, which distributed over $40,000 in grants to young New Zealanders in its first two years.
