The recipient of Garsington Opera’s prestigious Leonard Ingram Award, lyric soprano Verity Wingate is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and a member of The Prince Consort. At GSMD she received the Paul Hamburger Prize for Schubert song awarded my Graham Johnson and is a scholar of the Alvarez Young Artist Programme, Samling Artist Programme and Mendelssohn Foundation.
Her engagements have included solo recitals at the Barbican, Wigmore Hall, LSO St. Luke’s, and the Gewandhaus in Leipzig. As a member of the Prince Consort she has appeared at the Bath, Harrogate and Hertford Festivals. She appeared live on Classic FM from Wigmore Hall with a recital of love songs for Valentine’s Day. As a concert and oratorio soloist her engagements have included the world premiere of ‘The King’s Revels’ by Judith Bingham, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and B minor Mass, Handel’s Jephtha, Mozart’s C minor Mass and Requiem, the Brahms Requiem, Mahler’s 4th Symphony and Janacek’s ‘The Diary of One Who Disappeared, at venues including the Aldeburgh Festival, St. John’s Smith Square, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Bath Abbey and Wells Cathedral.
Recently Verity was fortunate enough to make her opera debut stepping in to play the role of Pamina in Mozart’s The Magic Flute on the main stage at Garsington Opera alongside the main cast, including artists such as Benjamin Hulett, Adrian Thompson and James Creswell, conducted by Christian Curnyn. She also performed a recital of English love songs including the world premiere of Graham Ross’ ‘Fools Love’ with Andrew Staples, Alisdair Hogarth and Laura Mucha at Wigmore Hall. They performed some of this work live on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune. At the Hertford Festival she performed the premiere of the soprano arrangement of Stephen Hough’s ‘Herbstlieder’, previously written for baritone and fellow Prince Consort member, Jacques Imbrailo, along with his ‘Other Love Songs’ with the composer and pianist at the piano.
