Anglo-Greek Lyric Soprano Danae Eleni is the winner of the 2021 Concorso Musica Sacra in Rome, and will tour as a soloist for the Messiah in 2022 to Italy, Greece, Romania and the Czech Republic. Earlier this season, Danae made her role debut as Mimì at the Jerash Festival in Jordan, made debuts in gala performances in Canari & Barcelona, and a role debut as Donna Elvira Don Giovanni with the Szeged Symphony Orchestra in Hungary. Danae is an ambassador for contemporary music and music education, recently co-founding the online international NexTus Festival, and lecturing in “Composition for Solo Voice” at Yale-NUS, Singapore. Danae is currently researching 19th century Greek songs for an upcoming recording and recital tour. Danae was born in Bahrain, studied at the Royal College of Music and the University of Oxford, and now lives in Warsaw.
In December 2020 Danae won the Pawel Sztompke Radio Prize at the International Operetta Competition - Iwona Borowicka, in Krakow. Future plans include: Mimì La Bohème (Warsaw); Valencienne La Veuve Joyeuse and Annina La Traviata (Baugé). Before moving to Warsaw, Danae made her role debut as Susanna Le Nozze di Figaro and re-interpreted the character in a contemporary look at women’s rights in Brignall’s Roles: Susanna (Metta Theatre), in the V&A’s Raphael Gallery. In February 2020 Danae led opera workshops in Bosnia with English Pocket Opera Company.

Danae read Psychology, Philosophy, Physiology and Phonetics at Worcester College
(Oxford) and studied Voice at the Royal College of Music (London). Passionate about education and contemporary music, Danae was soprano-in-residence for the 2nd International Composer/Performer Festival (Athens), and is a Guest Lecturer in Voice at Yale-NUS (Singapore) and Oxford University. She has led workshops for Garsington Opera Education, Baseless Fabric, and across the UK and the Middle East. Danae has also performance-lectured on Maths and Music for “Maths Teams”, a charity making Mathematics more popular and inclusive. As a storyteller and performance artist, Danae has performed for the Malala Fund and the Young Muslim Writers’ Awards.
