Covered Covered & Performed Scenes Premiere of New Work Concert COVID-cancelled

Mezzosoprano Angharad Lewis'' rich voice brought Suzuki to life as a caring, sympathetic servant whose only concern was for Butterfly, she merits larger roles than Suzuki. The world of opera will surely be richer when she takes her rightful place in it. Jean Gardner, Opera Talent

The fact that I didn’t recognise Mrs Whitewash and Pluto’s long-suffering wife as the same actor is a testament to Aussie Angharad Lewis’s non-stop stage skills (and costume changes). australiantimes.co.uk

The two solo movements for mezzo soprano are more sombre and Angharad Lewis sang these with suitable dignity. Nicholas Tyrrell-Evans, Haslemere Herald Haslemere Musical Society (Vivaldi Gloria)

Diploma of Opera
Sydney Conservatorium of Music
1999–2002
Bachelor of Music (Performance)
University of Western Australia
1994–1998

Angharad Lewis formed her interest in opera when she gained the lead role in her school production at the tender age of 14. She then went on to study at the University of Western Australia for a Bachelor of Music (Performance) degree and then furthered her studies in Sydney at the Conservatorium of Music with a Diploma of Opera. A highlight of her time there included performing at the Sydney Opera House in a staged production of Carmina Burana (Coro Piccolo) with the Australian Ballet Company with an extended run of 42 performances.

During the Covid time period, she spent her time learning and working her core roles of Amneris, Azucena, Eboli and Ulrica.

The voice is a dark, rich colour, with a strong and vibrant top and lower registers. Easily traversing between the registers.

In the UK, opera roles have included the roles of The Carmelites as Mother Marie, The Monitor & Mistress of Novices (Suor Angelica), Amneris (Aida), Mercedes (Carmen), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Third Lady (Magic Flute), Zita (Gianni Schicchi) , Olga (Eugene Onegin) Public Opinion/Juno (Orpheus Down Under), Katisha (Mikado), Lady in Waiting (Macbeth), Carmen.

Even a fascinating stint of performing sections of Turandot for Warner Bros in the film Misssion Impossble 5, with Tom Cruise.

She has more recently been performing in Carmen, Il Trovatore, La Traviata, Lady Macbeth, across northern Italy. With forthcoming productions of Don Carlos (Eboli) Cavalleria Rusticana (Santuzza), Il Trovatore (Azucena) ad Verdi Requiem in the pipeline.

She has also performed in Master-classes with Richard Bonyage, Christopher Hogwood, Patrick Summers, Hakan Hagegard, Nelly Miricioiu, Jan-Hendrik Rootering, David Parry and Maestro Cilario.

In concert Angharad has performed in mamy recitals throuhout Germany, Austria, France and Italy.

Angharad teachers have included Arwel Morgan and Jacqueline Bremar.
