Darja Scukina as Amor, with her honest face and true, open voice, makes us hope for happy ending in spite of the torment. The opera is performed in English and every single word was clear, making it a quite difference experience from more classical performances. For this reviewer, being able to understand every allusion, every twist and turn of every emotion, made it all the more gripping and hence enjoyable. (2014)

Darja Scukina was born in 1990 in Rezekne, a small town in Latvia, to Russian and Belarussian parents. At the tender age of 5 she made her first TV appearance in a local kids show and at the age of 8 appeared on stage in Chekhov’s Bear. Darja occasionally performed with youth theatre, Christian theatre and professional theatre. At the age of 14 she took part and became a finalist at a local talent contest, after that she started taking singing lessons and a year later enrolled into Jana Ivanova music college as a vocalist. Darja was chosen as a lead character Nastenka in a production for children Moroz Ivanovich at the Russian Drama theatre ‘Yorick’ when she was 16. Not long after that she performed in her first solo performance The tale of the Moscow bell-ringer by Anastasia Zvetayeva. At the age of 18 Darja moved to Britain to study Drama at the University of Huddersfield where she staged a solo performance The Accompanist as her final year project. Since completing the degree Darja moved to London and started taking lessons with Laura Sarti. She performed The Accompanist in Russian language in Latvia and at the International Youth Arts Festival in Kingston in July 2012 in English.
Darja has completed 2013/2014 academic year at Morley Opera School performing in excerpts of Dido and Aeneas (Dido), Midsummer Night's Dream (Titania), Orfeo ed Euridice (Amor), Die Fledermaus (Adele), Carmen (Micaela) and Robinson Crusoe by Offenbach (Suzanne).
In June 2014 Darja has sung a role of Amor in Orpheus and Eurydice for Time Zone Theatre at The Rose Theatre, Bankside.
