Canadian soprano Brittany King is an artist confident in an extensive range of styles, languages, and platforms. Brittany returned to live performing in 2021 with the Worcester Choral Society, UK (Handel’s Messiah), the Gloucester Choral Society, UK (Bach's Christmas Oratorio), and in 2022 with Coventry Cathedral Choral Society, UK (Bob Chilcott’s St John Passion). She is looking forward to 2023 with performances at Salisbury Cathedral (Brahm's Requiem) and with the York Music Society (Faure's Requiem & Michael Haydn's Requiem).
Prior to the pandemic, Brittany was gaining momentum as a sought-after soloist for UK choral and concert society performances. Appearances included turns as the soprano soloist with the Newent Choral Society (Handel’s Messiah), Stratford Choral Society (Bach’s Christmas Oratorio), Elgar Baroque Singers - Worcester (Haydn’s Creation), Abingdon Choral Society - Oxford (Handel's Dixit Dominus and Vivaldi's Gloria), and Gloucester Choral Society (Vivaldi's Gloria.) Brittany was a featured performer at Elmslie House in Malvern (The Art of Song concert) and for the Leighton Buzzard Choral Society (Saint-Saëns' Oratorio de Noël).
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Brittany was active in creating digital music content for Timothy Eaton Memorial Church (TEMC) in Toronto. Collaborating with Director of Music Ministries Dr. Elaine Choi and Principal Organist Stephen Boda as both soloist and quartet member, she covered repertoire spanning Handel, Mozart, Rutter, and a North American premiere by Hong Kong composer Ernest Hui.
In Canada, Brittany’s notable performances include Schubert’s Benedictus - Mass in G major (TEMC), Bach’s Magnificat (Durham Philharmonic and Orchestra), and Saint-Saëns Symphony No.3 (Toronto Concert Orchestra and TEMC.) She performed Orff’s Carmina Burana (Wilfrid Laurier University and MOTUS O Company), Gorecki’s Symphony No.3 (Waterloo Collegiate Institute String Orchestra), and was a guest soloist during the pre-show at the Manitoba Opera House.
Equally at home as an operatic artist, Brittany made her debut with Toronto Operetta Theatre as Pitti-Sing in Gilbert & Sullivans' The Mikado (Sony Centre Toronto.) Other roles include Blanche from Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites, Sister Genovieffa in Puccini’s Suor Angelica (Opera NUOVA and Oshawa Opera), and Despina in Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte (Opera by Request - Toronto.)
Brittany holds an Honours Bachelor of Music degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and diplomas from the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto) in voice and piano. She attended the Post-Bachelor Artist Program at the University of Manitoba. Brittany was the Concerto Competition winner at Wilfrid Laurier University, received the Keith Knight’s Memorial Scholarship (Kitchener, ON), Scholarship Winner of the Lois Marshall Competition (London, ON), and won Honorable Mention at the Ontario Provincial Music Festival.
Formerly based in Toronto, Brittany recently moved to the UK where she now makes her home.
