German-American Mezzo-soprano Carola Emrich-Fisher has been praised for her “creamy tone” (Boston Classical Review) and “mahogany timbre and supple translucence” (Boston Musical Intelligencer). Her versatile career on both opera and concert stage has led her to perform extensively in the US, Europe and the UK, and her performances have been described as “particularly moving” (Boston Musical Intelligencer). Operatic roles include Carmen (Carmen) with Brent Opera, Phèdre (Hippolyte et Aricie) with Linden Baroque , Siebel (Faust) with Brent Opera, Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Annio (La Clemenza di Tito), Dido and Sorceress (Dido and Aeneas), Third Lady, (Die Zauberflöte). She has appeared as Alto soloist in J.S. Bach Cantata BWV77, Herbert Howell’s Requiem, with Cantata Singers and Libella Quartet. Other solo engagements include Handel’s Messiah, as well as And the Trains Kept Coming by acclaimed composer Lior Navok, under the direction of David Hoose. Ms. Emrich-Fisher’s solo performances have been broadcast on US radio stations WERS 88.9 FM, WCRI 95.9 FM and WGBH 99.5 FM. She can be heard in solo roles on the Newport Baroque recording of Dido and Aeneas, as well as Cantata Singers’ recording Divining the Incandescent.
Ms. Emrich-Fisher has given solo performances at many Boston, MA venues, such as Jordan Hall, Edward M. Pickman Hall and the Goethe Institut, among others. A frequent recitalist, Ms. Emrich-Fisher has presented solo and chamber music recitals at venues such as the German Embassy (New York City), the Peabody Essex Museum, Middlebury College (VT), the Museum of the American Piano (NYC) and Stummsche Reithalle (Neunkirchen, Germany), among other New England venues. In 2012, she was among only 6 US singers chosen to take part in the Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar, and recently completed the Crear Art Song Masterclass with Malcom Martineau. This season, she was accepted into the Opera Master Class at Crear with Dame Ann Murray. Next season, she will play the role of Clementine in Felici Opera's UK Premiere of Victoria Bond's opera Clara.
Before relocating to London, U.K., Ms. Emrich-Fisher served as the Alto for the Libella Quartet, a vocal ensemble performing works from all periods, and committed to performing 20th- and 21st-century repertoire. As an ensemble member, she has performed with many professional ensembles, notably the Handel and Haydn Society, Boston Baroque, Cantata Singers, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Boston Ballet, Lorelei Ensemble, Boston Bel Canto Opera, the Bronx Opera, Golden Fleece Opera and Odyssey Opera. She appeared with Boston Ballet for their acclaimed production of Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream under the direction of Jonathan McPhee. Under the direction of Sir Roger Norrington, Ms. Emrich-Fisher performed at the BBC Proms with the Handel and Haydn Society to sing Haydn’s The Seasons and joined Boston Baroque’s concert tour to Poland in 2015 under the direction of Martin Pearlman.
Ms. Emrich-Fisher holds a Master’s Degree from the Longy School of Music with distinction and a Bachelor’s Degree from New England Conservatory with honours. She is a graduate of the Song Fest Summer Program. A passionate voice teacher, she is a former faculty member of the Allegro Music School, Winchester Community Music School, Brookline Music School as well as Cantata Singers’ Classroom Cantatas. Ms. Emrich-Fisher maintains a private voice studio in London.
