26 year old British/Irish Soprano Jane Burnell recently received a Master of Music in Vocal and Opera Studies at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) under the tutelage of international Soprano, Linda Richardson. Prior to this she studied at Leeds Conservatoire under the tutelage of Adriana Festeu (Mezzo) where she received The Leeds Rotary Club Music Prize (highest recital mark on the Classical Pathway) and The Peter Roberts CBE Memorial Prize (highest overall degree mark). Jane was the 2021-2022 Coro Nuovo Sussex Young Musician of the Year, and in 2022 she reached the finals of the Joyce and Michael Kennedy Award for the Singing of Strauss at the RNCM. Most recently Jane was a 2023 Buxton Opera Young Artist, and she returns to Buxton in 2024 as a Principal Artist.
Her opera roles include: Pamina The Magic Flute (Leeds Youth Opera), Due Donne Le Nozze di Figaro (RNCM Opera), La Novizia Suor Angelica (Random Opera Company), Adele Die Fledermaus (LCSU Opera Society), Belinda/Second Woman Dido and Aeneas (LUUMS Opera Society), Chorus & Mabel (cover) Pirates of Penzance (Rocket Opera) and Chorus La Sonnambula (Buxton Opera). Opera Scenes include: Zerlina Don Giovanni (RNCM Opera) Guilia La Scala di Seta (RNCM Opera), Rosaura Le Donne Curiose (RNCM Opera) and Semele Semele (Leeds Conservatoire).
Jane is a regular concert soloist, performing with choirs and orchestras all across the UK, including: Mozart Exsultate Jubilate (Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra), Handel Messiah (Skipton Camerata), Bach B Minor Mass, Mozart Requiem and Bach Christmas Oratorio. Jane is a passionate Baroque soloist, performing regularly with Manchester Baroque, and in 2022 Jane was as a soloist for The Great Yorkshire Proms with the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra, alongside Sir Willard White and Aled Jones.
As a recitalist, Jane has performed at The Bridgewater Hall, Leeds Town Hall and the Howard Assembly Room, and gives regular song recitals in churches and cathedrals across the UK. She has also performed in Opera Gala’s with Clonter Opera and Rocket Opera.
Alongside performing, Jane is a keen music educator, working regularly as a Workshop Leader with Leeds Lieder Education Programme and Grange Park Primary Robins.
