Born in Japan, the tenor Taro Kato earned his Bachelor’s Degree at the Kunitachi College of Music in 2006, graduating at the top of his class and winning the Yatabe prize.
Then he earned the Master’s Degree in 2009 at the Tokyo National University of the Arts.
From 2010 to 2012, he studied with Prof. Tom Krause at the Cátedra de Canto “Alfredo Kraus” at “Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía" in Madrid, with the obtention of a diploma.
Since 2015, he has private lessons with Maestro Roberto Frontali.

- In March 2023, He will perform the role of Dancairo “Carmen” (G. Bizet) at the Teatro Social Cajelli Busto Arsizio.

He won various competitions:
- July 2022, 1st Prize at the “2nd Swiss International Music Competition” Category Opera Singer, Lugano Switzerland.
- October 2021, Finalist of the Concorso Lirico Internazionale “A RUOLI D’OPERA” Milano. He won the role of Turiddu “Cavalleria Rusticana” (P. Mascagni). Performance on 18th April 2022 for the Stagione Lirica “Invito all’Opera” at Il Politeatro in Milan.
- October 2021, Finalist of the “Labia Prize 2021 Malcesine Garda lake 3rd Edition”
- October 2017, Winner at the “2nd International Singing Competition Opernspiele Munot”, Schaffhausen, Switzerland.
- July 2006, The Italian Ambassador Cup prize at the 37th "Italy Voice Competition" in Japan.

- March 2006, Kunitachi College of Music, he was the best student in the singing class (among 126 students). He received the Yatabe prize.
- September 2005, 1st Prize at the All-Japan Student Music Competition in Tokyo, College / General Division.

He has performed as soloist with some of Japanese leading orchestras such as:

NHK Symphony Orchestra (Tokyo), Tokyo New City Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra (Tokyo), Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra and worked with some of the famous conductors in the world like Michel Plasson, Ulf Schirmer, Antoni Ros-Marbà, Sebastian Weigle, Simone Young


- In October 2022, he performed Ferrando “Così fan tutte” (W. A. Mozart) at the operastudio of Accademia Dell'Arte Dello Spettacolo (ADADS) as emergency call. Then he performed “Lucia di Lammermoor” Edgardo (G. Donizetti), “Carmen" Don José (G. Bizet / Guiraud) at the ADADS in 2023.
-In June 2022, he was invited to sing the role of Il Duca di Mantova “Rigoletto” (G. Verdi) and the role of Rinuccio “Gianni Schicchi” (G. Puccini) at the De’ Bardi Festival, in Nijmegen, Netherlands.
In October 2022, He will perform in the role of Turiddu “Cavalleria Rusticana” (P. Mascagni). Performance on 16th October 2022 for the Stagione Lirica “Invito all’Opera” in Milan.

He made his opera debut in the role of Rodolfo “La Bohème” (G.Puccini) in 2007 in Tokyo. Then he performed in operas and operettas:“La Traviata” (G. Verdi) Alfredo,“L’Elisir d’amore” (G. Donizetti) Nemorino, “La Damnation de Faust” (L. H. Berlioz) Faust, “Tosca” (G. Puccini) Cavaradossi, “Roméo et Juliette” (C. Gounod) Tybalt, “Der Rosenkavalier” (R. Strauss) Ein Sänger, “L’Enfant et les Sortilèges” La Théière, “Rio de Jeanne et Hiro” (Richard Dubugnon) Hiro etc...

He performed in concert as soloist in: “Requiem” (W. A. Mozart), ”St Matthew Passion“ (J. S. Bach), ”Elias" (F. Mendelssohn), “9th Symphony”, “Missa in C major” (L.van Beethoven). And when he sang the “Requiem” (W. A. Mozart) as solo tenor at the Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca in front of Queen Sofia, a critic of the newspaper “Diario de Mallorca” wrote: “Among the soloists, the tenor was the best”.
In 2013, it is the international release of his CD "Winterreise" (F. Schubert) in a 1st world version with organ, for the firm "Doron Music".
