Hope Pugh is a Classical and Operatic Mezzo-Soprano from rural Hereford now based in Birmingham, UK: having completed a BMus(Hons) in Vocal Studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2022 with scholarship. Hope has a particular interest in historical performance and choral and consort singing.

Hope Pugh is studying with esteemed, world renowned soprano Amanda Roocroft. Hope is currently an Alto Lay-clerk at St. Philip's Cathedral, Birmingham and is part of The Sixteen's Young Artists Programme: Genesis Sixteen. Hope was the Ex Cathedra Alto Student Scholar for 2021/2022 and has performed with them in many concerts all over the UK, and remains part of the choir. She was the first female Alto Choral Scholar at Worcester Cathedral in 2019/20 and held an Alto Scholarship at St. Chad's Cathedral, Birmingham (2019-2021) . . From a young age she was involved with many choirs in Herefordshire such as: Hereford Choral Society, Hereford Cathedral Voluntary Choir, the Three Choirs Festival, Hereford Gilbert and Sullivan Society and held an Alto Choral Scholarship at Holy Trinity Church, Hereford.

Hope regularly performs as a soloist around the UK and has a keen interest in early music. Having recently been a soloist in Mozart's Requiem at St. Mary's Church, Nottingham and Verdi Requiem and Magnificat at St. Michael's Church, Lichfield (May 2022). Other recent solo work includes her debut at Birmingham Town Hall as soloist for Durufles Requiem alongside Thomas Trotter (April 2022) and Birmingham Bach Choir performance of Dvorak Mass in D and a new world premiere of a piece by David Bednall (December 2021). Hope was also a soloist and chorus member in the specialist early music concert 'Continental Masters of Sacred Baroque Music' in Liverpool Cathedral (August 2022).

Hope also collaborates and performs regularly with Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Historical Performance Department. Most recently in her own concert 'Think Outside the Bachs'. Where she sang with many differing chamber groups and formed her own small ensemble of singers exploring repertoire by female composers.

Hope is an alumni member of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and Rodolfus Choir in which Hope has taken part in a concert in Royal Festival Hall with the Philharmonic Orchestra and voices and has allowed her to work on more contemporary pieces and premiere new music. As well as live performances Hope has been involved with many CD recordings with these choirs, most recently: 'Choral music by John Tavener & Francis Grier' ( Rodolfus Choir 2021) and 'My soul, there is a country' (NYCGB 2019)

Hope has also featured on television and radio: In 2022 Hope featured two BBC recordings in Coventry Cathedral of 'Ghosts in the Ruins' Nitin Sawhney and in Cardiff Millennium Centre 'The Song of Songs' Walter Arlen, both released on television and radio in May 2022. She also features in the BBC 1 television recording of Midnight Mass from St.Chad's Cathedral, Birmingham (December 2021) and BBC Radio Recording of John Rutter's Requiem (2019) at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. As well as this Hope has appeared on international television on filmed parts of 'Canta Al Mar' Festival in Spain (2017). Where she won an award for 'Best Soloist' of the competition as a whole over all the countries that participated.

One of Hope's passions is most certainly opera, having performed most recently at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire the roles of L'Architecture, Les Art Florissant (June 2022), Bianca, The Rape of Lucretia, La Suora Infermeira, Suor Angelica and chorus in Acis and Galatea (November 2021). Other roles she has successfully gained are: Sesto in Giulio Cesare, Arsamene in Serse and Boy Three in Die Zauberflöte (2020), Masque Quartet, The Enchanted Island (2019), Amore, L'incoronazione di Poppea (2019).
