Folkestone On Song – The Tosti International Singing Academy

21 August – 2 September 2025. Patrons: Sir Antonio Pappano CVO and Dame Sarah Connolly DBE

Paolo Tosti was one of the most influential singing teachers and song composers of his time. The Academy will be based at The Grand in Folkestone, where Tosti spent his summers whilst he lived in London.

The Academy will provide world-class singer training to 16 participants, 8 of whom will be exceptional conservatoire students, and 8 exceptional emerging professionals. Led by operatic bass Matthew Rose, and inspired by the work of American singing teacher and mentor Marlena Malas, the singers will be immersed into the highest level of training and performance.

Voice lessons will be provided daily by Matthew Rose and Michèle Losier, both students and disciples of Marlena Malas. There will be group classes each day and Masterclasses with distinguished Internationally acclaimed artists Sir Thomas Allen, Dame Felicity Lott, and Sir John Tomlinson.

Singers will perform recitals with Bénédicte Jourdois (The Metropolitan Opera and The Juilliard School), Anna Tilbrook, Julius Drake and Malcom Martineau (International accompanists).

Guest coaches include David Gowland (director Jette Parker AP), Adrian Kelly (Director Opera Studio Zürich), Daniel Cohen (MD Darmstadt Opera), Jonathan Papp (Solti Academy), Martin Fitzpatrick (ENO) and Audrey Hyland (RCM).

Opera scenes led by Eric Melear (Artistic Director National Opera Studio) and Louisa Muller (International stage director)

Opportunities to receive mentorship from and exposure to top industry professionals.

There will be performances in Folkestone, which, along with the masterclasses, will be open to the general public.
