Alberto Sousa, a lyric tenor, was born in Madeira, (Portugal) and graduated in Voice Teaching from the University of Aveiro, studying with António Salgado. He was then accepted onto the GSMD Opera Course, where he studied with Laura Sarti.

As an alumnus of the Solti Te Kanawa Accademia di Bel Canto (2012) he recorded a CD of Italian songs produced by Richard Bonynge, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Sir Georg Solti’s birth.

2014 was an excitingly international year for Alberto, with a tour of Bel Canto recitals in Japan, La Bohème (Puccini) at the Barga Belcanto Festival (Italy) and a European tour of Orlando Paladino (Haydn) with Purpur Opera. Alberto then sang the first modern performance of Jan Wansky's Litaniae in Poland and made his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona, performing Mozart's Requiem.

Back in London, where he currently lives, Alberto has recently performed La Cenerentola (Rossini) with the Clapham Opera Festival and Die Fledermaus (J. Strauss) with Danube Opera at St. John's Smith Square,

Alberto is currently touring the UK with Swansea City Opera singing the title role in Faust (Gounod). Later this year he'll return to Barga for a new production of La Traviata and once more travel through Europe with Purpur Opera's third revival of their critically acclaimed Orlando Paladino, with performances already scheduled at the prestigious Theater an der Wien.

Having sung Gastone and covered Alfredo at Grange Park Opera's La Traviata, he has already been engaged as a soloist for their 2016 season.

Alberto is also a sought-after oratorio singer, specialising in both Italian (Verdi's Requiem, Rossini's Petite Messe Solenelle and Stabat Mater, etc...) and German repertoire performed in English (Mendelssohn's St. Paul, Haydn's Creation). As a versatile, creative musician and good sight reader, he is also frequently asked to perform new works or first modern performances of obscure repertoire.
