Alice is a versatile singer known for her expressive and committed performances. Roles include La Contessa (Le nozze di Figaro) and Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus).
Alice is co-founder of opera company Gothic Opera which she continues to run. With Gothic Opera, Alice recently sang the role of Matilde in Maria de Rudenz by Donizetti. She also performed the role of Katrina in Rip Van Winkle by Planquette to critical acclaim. She sang the role of Alice in Le Loup-garou in 2022, Malwina in Der Vampyr by Marschner, and created the role of the Morning Nurse in Bluebeard’s Castle, performed in Hungarian and directed by Julia Mintzer. Plans for Gothic Opera continue to grow and develop.
Recent roles learnt as a cover include Jenufa and Magda (La Rondine) for Midsummer Opera. In 2021, Alice toured France and the UK in the role of Micaela in Carmen with Opera Loki. In 2019, Alice played Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus with the Lyric Opera Studio Weimar. She stepped in at short notice to play La Contessa (Le nozze di Figaro) with Bloomsbury Opera in London in April 2018. Previous operatic experience includes Fortuna in L'incoronazione di Poppea in Trinity Laban's summer opera and Miss Jessel in Britten's The Turn of the Screw in Opera Scenes at Trinity Laban. Alice also sang Kate Pinkerton/chorus in Madama Butterfly with Bury Court Opera/Southbank Sinfonia in Ischia and Anghiari, Italy. In July 2016, Alice played Sarah in the newly-commissioned opera Banished (Stephen McNeff) at Blackheath Halls, directed by Elaine Kidd and conducted by Jessica Cottis.
Alice’s work includes creating a site-specific exploration of Libby Larsen’s song cycle Try Me Good King on the foreshore at Greenwich, the site where Anne Boleyn was taken by river to the Tower of London for her execution. Originally from Bath, Alice trained at the Wales International Academy of Voice with Dennis O'Neill and Nuccia Focile. Prior to that she studied at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where she was awarded the prize for the highest mark in the MMus degree. As an undergraduate, she attended St Catharine's College, Cambridge, where she completed her degree in English Literature and held a choral scholarship. She studies with Alison Wells in London, and has sung in masterclasses with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Richard Bonynge, Rosemary Joshua, Brigitte Fassbaender (at the Wigmore Hall), Malcolm Martineau, David Gowland, Susan Bullock, Katharine Harries, Mark Shanahan, Dame Anne Evans and Jonathan Miller.
Alice is an experienced opera chorus member, and is a member of the extra chorus for English National Opera and Gothenburg Opera. Operas sung in as a chorus member include Sāvitri with Hampstead Garden Opera in 2020, which was the first opera in London post-lockdown; a scene from Roxana Panufnik's Silver Birch with the SWAP'ra chorus in their inaugural gala at Opera Holland Park; Lucia di Lammermoor, La clemenza di Tito, Cosi fan tutte, Madama Butterfly, Orfeo, Suor Angelica; Ariodante (Handel) with Cambridge Handel Opera Group and The Mikado with Welsh National Youth Opera.
Alice sings as a professional member of the choir of Methodist Central Hall, Westminster. As a pro member of the Philharmonia Chorus, she performs regularly in the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall and other prestigious venues. In the past she also sang with the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.
Solo oratorio includes Maria Theresa Mass (Haydn), Mozart's Requiem, Ein Deutsches Requiem (Brahms), Ode to St Cecilia (Handel), In terra pax (Finzi), Te Deum (Teixeira), and Missa Romana (Pergolesi).
