Baritone Anastasios Michalis has performed at various venues, including the Royal Opera House, the Greek National Opera, Kensington Palace, the Athens Concert Hall-Megaron and Cadogan Hall. He has collaborated with the Athens and Epidaurus Festival and the Vienna State Opera. Anastasios has worked with prominent artists and given recitals at the embassies of the USA, Russia and Venezuela in Athens, and the Russian and Bulgarian embassies in London. He has also performed in the presence of members of the Greek, Spanish, British and French royal families, including King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, Queen Sofia of Spain, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. Anastasios specialises in romantic (mainly but not exclusively belcanto and Verdi) and contemporary repertoire. He has participated in many world premieres in London and Athens. He has also recorded albums which have been released in Greece and an album with composer Sidhant Kapoor, awaiting release in the UK, USA and India. Anastasios holds a Master of Music and a Bachelor of Music degree. He studied with tenor John Wakefield, soprano Teresa Cahill and vocal coach Helen Yorke. He previously studied in Athens with baritone John Modenos, soprano Martha Arapis and vocal coach Bilio Moraiti. Anastasios has participated in masterclasses with David Gowland (Jette Parker Young Artists Programme, Royal Opera House), Cheryl Studer, Roderick Williams, Susan Bullock, James Gilchrist, Ruby Philogene, Ira Spaulding and Kathryn Magestro. He is also a graduate of the Department of Philosophy of Science of the University of Athens. Apart from his native Greek, he is fluent in English and Spanish and speaks good French, Italian and German. Anastasios’ studies were generously supported by (alphabetically) the Crompton Scholarship (Jennifer and John Crompton), Mrs Chrisanthy Lemos, Leventis Foundation, Stavros Niarchos Foundation, Kathleen Roberts Vocal Scholarship and Schilizzi Foundation.
