Anne-Sofie Søby Jensen is a Danish mezzo-soprano based in the United Kingdom. She is a graduate from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen where she studied BA in Music (Voice) with professor Helene Gjerris and Christen Stubbe Teglbjærg.
In 2017 Anne-Sofie was offered a place and a scholarship at Royal Academy of Music in London where she continued her vocal studies on the Preparatory Opera Master course with professors Susan McCulloch, Giles Underwood and James Baillieu. Anne-Sofie is a member of Academy’s prestigious Song Circle and KOHN Foundation Bach Cantata Series/Bach the European Series where she has often performed as a soloist.
Her characteristic voice is often described as warm, rich and unique and has already made her a sought-after oratorio soloist and lieder recitalist in both Denmark and across the UK. Anne-Sofie’s soft timbre, stage presence and strong musicality suites most musical genres within the classical repertoire. In Denmark, being a member of the professional Holmen’s Vocal Ensemble at the Royal Naval Church led to a joy for the baroque repertoire, and especially her soloist performances receive critical acclaim. Recent performances include Bach’s “St Matthew Passion” with Trevor Pinnock and the “B Minor Mass” with The Instruments of Time & Truth along with Anne-Sofie’s acknowledged performance of Rosmira/Eurimene in Handel’s opera “Partenope”.
Other operatic performances include title roles in Der Rosenkavalier and Carmen at Royal Academy of Music and L’enfant in L’enfant et les Sortilègès and The Artist in Ib Nørholm’s opera The Garden Wall, both at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Future operatic engagements include Mrs Noye in Britten’s Noye’s Fludde for the Leipzig Youth Opera Festival in 2020.
Anne-Sofie is extremely grateful to be supported by the Leverhulme Trust, Josephine Baker Trust, Augustinusfonden, Oticon-fonden, Louis-Hansen Fonden, Frimodt-Heineke Fonden, Operaens Venner and Knud Højgaards Fond.
