"Arina Mkrtchian’s sonorous Olga" (David Shengold, Classical Voice North America) (2024)
Sisters Olga and Tatyana (the wonderfully matched Arina Mkrtchian and Hasmik Harutanyan) have a busy but vacuous life of parties and fun. (David Winskill, Hampstead and Highgate Gazette) (2024)
Arina is an Armenian-Russian Mezzo-soprano. She completed her BA (Hons) in Music at Leeds College of Music, under the guidance of Adriana Festeu and Geraldine Cassidy. In the third year of her studies, she had the chance to learn the role of Nora in 'The Riders to the Sea' by R.V. Williams, which was the milestone that inspired her to apply for a postgraduate course in music performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
She graduated from the David Seligman Opera School in 2023, where she was under the guidance of Anne Mason, Angela Livingstone, James Southall and John Fisher. Her recent roles were Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus), Mother Superior (Dialogues of the Carmelites), Ciesca (Gianni Schicchi), Flora (La Traviata), Emmy (Der Vampyr) and Olga (Eugene Onegin).
Arina was also a semi-finalist at a very prestigious vocal competition Ian Stoutzker Vocal Prize (2023). In January 2025, Arina was awarded the 1st prize (Mozart class) at the David Clover Festival of Singing.
Although singing is her first love, Arina is also hugely passionate about her native language and very much enjoys working as a Russian coach. In the summer of 2019, she had the opportunity to coach The National Chorus of Wales and The Philharmonia Chorus for their performance in the BBC Proms (Prom 28) of Rachmaninoff's "The Bells" and Borodin's 'The Polovtsian Dances' from "Prince Igor". Since then she coached "Eugene Onegin" for the Opera Gala at the RWCMD (November 2023), she was also invited back to work with The BBC National Chorus of Wales for their performance of Shostakovich's 13th Symphony (February 2024). Her recent Russian coaching engagement included coaching The Grange Park Opera for their performances of Rachmaninoff's Aleko with Sir Bryn Terfel in the title role (April-June 2024).
Currently, Arina is studying with Doctor Adriana Festeu. To see future engagements please visit her website.
