Bartholomew began his musical career at an early age when he became a chorister at Canterbury Cathedral at the age of 9. Since the age of 16 Bart has been a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain and their chamber choir Laudibus. During this time he has taken part in several CD recordings, Tours and collaborations with The Sixteen, The King Singers and Composer Eric Whitacre. After his A Levels he moved to Scotland to start his BMus Vocal Studies course at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama under the tutelage of George Gordon.
While at the RSAMD Bartholomew was a finalist in the Frank Spedding Lieder Prize, 2nd in the Jean Highgate Competition and highly commended in the Margaret Dick award. He also understudied the role of Prince Gremin in the RSAMD production of Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky and was in the semi-chorus of Ridicules in Prokofiev's The Love for Three Oranges, both of which were joint production with RSAMD and Scottish Opera. Bartholomew graduated from the RSAMD in 2009 and was then awarded a full scholarship to study a Master of Arts at the Royal Academy of Music in London studying with Glenville Hagreaves and Vocal coach Jonathan Papp. Whilst at the RAM he was a member of the Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Series. More recent solo roles are Somnus in the Hampstead Garden Opera's production of Handel's Semele, Collatinus in the Royal Conservatoire Of Scotland production of Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia and recently covered the role of Medieros in the Glyndebourne Touring Opera’s production of The Yellow Sofa by Julian Philips.
As a soloist Bartholomew has sung with the Scottish Baroque Players in Bach's B Minor Mass at the Glasgow City Halls. He also sung with the Scottish Opera Orchestra at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall as the soloist in their Christmas cracker concert. More recently he has performed with the London Oriana Choir singing Puccini's Messa di Gloria at St John's Smith Square London and is a regular singer with the Scottish Baroque based ensemble Ludus Baroque.
Bartholomew graduated with an MA from the Royal Academy of Music in July 2011 and went on to study at the Alexander Gibson Opera Studio at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Roles at the RCS included Peter Quince in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, a collaboration project with Scottish Opera and Herr Reich in Nicolai's Merry Wives of Windsor. Since graduating from the RSC Bartholomew has spent 3 season's singing with Glyndebourne Festival Opera chorus, highlights which included taking Billy Budd to New York in February 2014.
