Bauwien van der Meer (soprano) is a popular oratorio and opera singer and specializes in contemporary music (theatre). She also works as a choir conductor and makes her own productions. Bauwien studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Sasja Hunnego, after her Masters in Art History at the University of Utrecht. She obtained her Master's degree in singing at the New Opera Academy. She graduated with Alcina (title role) by Handel. She created many roles in contemporary opera at home and abroad. For several years now, Bauwien van der Meer has been coached by Margreet Honig and Gemma Visser. In recent years she has also been taking lessons with Anna Samuil, prima donna of the Staatsoper Berlin and principal subject teacher at the Hanns Eisler Conservatory in Berlin.
Bauwien van der Meer worked with renowned pianists and conductors such as Ed Spanjaard, Richard Egarr, Etienne Siebens and Lucas Vis. She has worked with composers such as Annelies van Parys, Kate Moore, Richard Ayres, (lead role in The Cricket Recovers), Lucas Wiegerink, Louis Andriessen (including de Staat with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2019) and directors such as Jorinde Keesmaat, Pierre Audi, Willy Decker and Floris Visser. She has performed at festivals such as Wonderfeel, Oerol, November Music, Holland Festival, Rotterdam O., Dresdner Festival der Zeitgenossische Musik, Ruhrtriennale, Ultraschall Berlin and the Cankarjev Dom Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts. She has worked with ensembles a.o, Ensemble Modern, Asko Schönberg, Slagwerkgroep Den Haag, Flemish Radiochoir (as a soloist), Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Oratorio works in her repertoire include: Brahms Requiem, Verdi Requiem, Requiem Faurè, Stabat Mater and Te Deum by Dvořák, Johannespassion by J.S. Bach, Poulenc's Gloria, Mendelssohn's Elias and Psalm 42, Rossini's Petite Messe Solenelle and Palmeri's Misa Tango. She sang Donna Anna, Mdma Cortese, Contessa, Odabella, among many modern roles. New operaroles are Ariadne auf Naxos and Chrysotemis.
Her CD La Lumière was recently released, featuring work by female composers. The CD was received with praise in the national press and was rated 9 (out of 10) in Luister.
