Brian McNamee- Biography

Brian McNamee is an Irish lyric tenor who read music at The University of Ulster, graduating with First Class Honours. He is a frequent performer on the opera stage as a soloist or chorus member, most notably with N.I Opera, The Buxton Festival and recently Opera North. Roles include ‘Prologue/ Quint’ The Turn of The Screw, ‘Sam’ Street Scene, ‘Normanno’ Lucia di Lammermoor and ‘Delil’ Giovanna D’Arco.

Oratorio performances have included Handel’s Messiah Requiems by Mozart and Goodall, Masses by Beethoven, Dvorak, Haydn and Schubert and in June last year he made his debut with the Ulster Orchestra singing Bach’s Magnificat.
Brian has just received a distinction in vocal performance and opera at The Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester where he completed his Masters studies under respected tenor Peter Alexander Wilson. At the RNCM Brian was the recipient of scholarships from The Hargreaves and Ball Arts Trust and The Lord and Lady Lurgan Trust and was awarded The William McLeod Johnstone Prize for Male Singers.

While at home in Northern Ireland he is the assistant Musical Director of The Omagh Community Youth Choir, a cross community youth project set up in the aftermath of The Omagh Bombing to promote peace through music. With the choir Brian has appeared on TV and Radio, toured extensively in Europe and The USA and even appeared at The World Famous Glastonbury Music Festival.

Currently Brian is performing with opera North in The English debut of Rimsky’s Korsakov’s The Snow Maiden,’ and next summer he covers the title role of Albert in Albert Herring by Britten at the Buxton Festival.
