Young Greek-Cypriot Australian Soprano Lirico, Christiana Aloneftis “has an exceptionally warm, expressive soprano voice….She performs with poise and graceful, nuanced phrasing” – Joyce DiDonato (The Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall).

Currently based in Germany, she completed a BMus and a DipLang (Adv. Italian) at The University of Melbourne in 2012. In addition, she holds a Master of Interpreting and Translation degree from Monash University (AUS). Supported by an Acclaim Italian Opera Ambassadorial Scholarship, Christiana relocated to Europe where she made her Italian debut at Fondazione Pergolesi-Spontini in the role of Agata (Il Flaminio – Pergolesi).

Since her time abroad, Christiana has participated in masterclasses and lessons with the following important figures: Luciana Serra (La Scala), Lella Cuberli (La Scala), Dimitris Kavrakos (MET) and Enza Ferrari among others. In 2015, she made her German debut in the role of Barbarina (The Marriage of Figaro) in Weimar and also her European orchestral debut performing Mozart arias and duets with The Cyprus National Symphony Orchestra for their masterclass series.

The recent graduate (full-scholarship) of the École Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot Paris, has performed a variety of roles including Musetta (Connecticut Lyric Opera/ 2016 Greve Opera Festival), Zerlina, Susanna, Despina (EMA 2016 and The North Czech Philharmonic Orchestra) and most recently Annina with Opera Classica Europa (Germany 2017).

In addition, she has appeared as a soloist and interviewee in: Apollon International Magazine (Cyprus), Volksfreund (Germany), Wiesbadener Tagblatt (Germany), local Melburnian press, Neos Kosmos, Il Globo, The Melbourne Observer (Australia) as well as broadcasts by 3MBS Fine Music Melbourne, SBS Radio Greek and Italian, 3ZZZ Radio Melbourne and Rete Italia.

Some past awards include finalist in the 2017 Australian Opera Awards and winner of the 2016 ENMP full-scholarship, the 2015 Mike Walsh Fellowship Award and the 2014 Cyprus Vocal Scholarship Competition. Christiana was also a finalist in the Australian Music Foundation Awards at Wigmore Hall, London (2013).

In 2017, the “genuine discovery…who perform(s) with a captivating stage presence, both in her personality and richly-coloured voice” (Wiesbadener Tagblatt 2017) was the youngest finalist in the Australian Opera Awards, made her US debut as the soprano soloist for Bach’s BWV 32 ‘Liebster Jesu, mein Verlangen’ with The Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra and was awarded the Acclaim Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship to support her studies.

Since early 2018, the young soprano has been based in Munich where she is undertaking an intensive training and mentoring opportunity with Bavarian State Opera professionals at one of the top six opera houses in the world, engaging in role study, agent auditions and preparation for participation in major international singing competitions. Aloneftis looks forward to starting 2019, as a participant singer in Barbara Fritolli's masterclass in Rome and will create her own recital for the prestigious Pharos Arts Foundation in Cyprus Young Artist Series, later in the year.
