Heralded as a “countertenor voice of rare beauty” (The Arts Desk) for his performance as Apollonia in Buxton International Festival’s production of La Canterina and praised for his “beautiful singing” (Northwestend) in Sir David Pountney’s Masque of Might for Opera North, Dominic Mattos is an emerging British countertenor with a versatile voice and extensive experience on stage. Other recent work includes Apollonia in La Canterina (Haydn) for Buxton International Festival [“a countertenor voice of rare beauty”] (The Arts Desk), Thaddeus Sholto in Sherlock Holmes: The Sign of the Four (Paterson) for Northern Opera Group, and covering Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina for Opera North. On the concert platform work includes Carmina Burana (Orff) with Guernsey Choral and Orchestral Society, Dixit Dominus (Handel) for the St. Andrew’s Chorus, Didymus in Theodora for Peter Holman/Suffolk Villages Festival and David in Saul for Aylesbury Opera. Dominic can also be heard providing solo vocals for the BBC Radio 3 drama Wunderkind. On the cabaret stage Dominic has appeared at the Aldeburgh Music Festival, The Blackpool Grand, The Pheasantry, The Jermyn Street Theatre and The Metropolitan Room in New York, and has been featured on BBC Radio 4. Dominic completed his studies at the RNCM under Jane Irwin with high distinction in 2023, generously supported by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, the Waverley Fund, and a Sybil Tutton Award from Help Musicians UK.
