British soprano Ella de Jongh is a recent graduate of the prestigious Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she studied under the tutelage of Professor Janice Chapman, graduating from the Artist Masters Course in July 2019. Ella previously studied with Professor Susan McCulloch for eight years before and during her time at the Guildhall. She has been fortunate enough to participate in masterclasses in song and opera with the likes of Brenda Hurley, Tobias Truniger, Susan Bullock, Elaine Kidd, Roderick Williams and Birgid Steinberger.

In her second year of the Opera Course at the Guildhall School, Ella performed the roles of Silvia in Mascagni's Zanetto (November 2020) and Tartagliona in Dove's The Little Green Swallow (February 2021). In the summer of 2019, Ella was fortunate enough to be an Alvarez Young Artist with Garsington Opera in their highly acclaimed production of Smetana's The Bartered Bride at Wormsley Estate under Director Paul Curran and Conductor Jac van Steen. She is thrilled to have returned to Garsington Opera for their 2021 critically acclaimed production of Der Rosenkavalier where she covered the role of Marianne as well as singing in the chorus. Other recent notable engagements include reaching the final in the Susan Longfield Competition for Sopranos and Mezzo-Sopranos, performing a Pre-LSO Czech Platform at the Barbican Hall as well as the UK Premiere of Andrew Norman's newly commissioned opera A Trip to the Moon with London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Simon Rattle. Operatic roles include Cleaning Lady I'm Cleaning, I'm Cleaning, The Witch Hansel und Gretel and First Lady The Magic Flute. Scenes roles include Donna Anna Don Giovanni, Giorgetta Il tabarro, Elizabeth 1st Gloriana, Marschallin Der Rosenkavalier, Lady Billows Albert Herring, Mistress Ford Merry Wives of Windsor and Vitellia La clemenza di Tito.

As an oratorio soloist, Ella is in high demand and concerts include Mendelssohn Elijah, Vivaldi Gloria and Magnificat, Bach Magnificat, Tippett A Child of Our Time, Handel Messiah, Mozart Requiem, Haydn Missa in Augustiis, Goodall Eternal Light: A Requiem and Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem. Ella has recorded a number of CD’s with Faber & Faber, as part of the national Sing Up! campaign and in 2014, completed a commercial for Apple under award winning Marketing and Advertising director Ian Thatcher.

Ella is a Haberdashers' Opera Scholar and the recipient of The Nicky Bird Scholarship, for which she is hugely honoured.
