Emily Beech is an Irish soprano and opera maker. She was a BYO Serena Fenwick Artist for 2024 and a Junior Fellow at GSMD this year. She was also a SongEasel Young Artist for 2023, and a Waterperry Opera Festival Young Artist (Director) for 2023. Her recent work includes the role of Oscar (Un Ballo in Maschera) for Opera on Location, in a new English translation of Verdi’s score by Ashley Pearson. For Trinity Laban she performed the roles of Queen Mary (Mary Queen of Scots), Sandrina (La Finta Giardiniera), Rosaura (Le Donne Curiose) and Mimi (La Boheme). Emily graduated with Distinction from her postgraduate vocal studies at TLCMD in 2023 under the tutelage of Sophie Grimmer, where her studies were generously supported by the Kathleen Roberts Scholarship and the John Clemence Charitable Trust. Previously, she studied Music at the University of Birmingham, graduating with a first-class degree in 2019. Emily is a SongEasel Young Artist and has enjoyed recent competition success as a prize-winner in the AESS National English Song Competition 2023 and the Peter Hearn Foundation Competition 2023. Alongside her work as a performer Emily is a fledgling opera director; she was a Waterperry Opera Festival Young Artist in 2023, for whom she directed Samuel Barber’s A Hand of Bridge and was assistant director on their double bill of Acis and Galatea and Dido and Aeneas. Emily has developed work for the Tete-a-Tete Opera Festival, Opera Prelude, Pimlico Music Foundation and Streetwise Opera. She is delighted to be starting work as Junior Fellow (opera directing) at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama this academic year.
