Hailing from the North of England, soprano Emily Christina Loftus recently graduated from the Royal College of Music and is a Samling Artist and Oxford Lieder Emerging Artist.
For the 21/22 season, Emily performed the role of Pamina in The Magic Flute (Opera North, WSO) as well as joining the chorus for Così Fan Tutte (ENO) and Parsifal (Opera North). Recital engagements include an Emerging Artist recital at Oxford Lieder along side Mary Bevan and a Guest Recital for Howdenshire Music. Emily and pianist George Ireland have been selected as an Oxford Lieder Young Artist Duo 2022/23.
Competition successes for 2022 include being selected for the International Vocal Competition (IVC) OperaOratorio – ‘s-Hertogenbosch, finalist in the Somerset Song Prize and semi-finalist in the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Awards. In 2021, Emily was a semi-finalist in the Royal Overseas League Vocal Competition and the Premiere Opera Foundation International Vocal Competition.
Emily is a graduate of the Royal College of Music (2019-2021) where she studied with Rosa Mannion and Caroline Dowdle on the Master’s of Performance course. During her studies, Emily was generously supported by the Leverhulme Arts Scholarship, was a Josephine Baker Trust Artist and recipient of the Sir James Caird Travel Scholarship. Emily is also a First Class graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (2014-2018) where she completed her undergraduate degree as a RCS Scholar, studying with Patricia MacMahon.
Emily had performed the roles of Pamina The Magic Flute (Opera North, WSO), Papagena Die Zauberflöte (RCMIOS) Evita/Girl in Jeans Scoring a Century (British Youth Opera) and Mary Crawford Mansfield Park (Edinburgh Studio Opera). Other roles performed include: Sister Constance Dialogues des Carmélites, Sophie Werther, Gretel Hänsel und Gretel (RCM Opera Scenes), Ilia Idomeneo (RCS Opera Scenes) Oscar Un Ballo in Maschera and Musetta La Bohème (Fife Young Classical Artist).
