Scottish soprano Emily Wishart has performed regularly across the central belt of Scotland as a soloist with the likes of the Edinburgh Royal Choral Union and the Paisley Philharmonic Choir and at events such as the Wellington Arts Festival and The Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Emily is currently studying at the Royal College of Music in London for a Master of Performance with Sophie Bevan and Caroline Dowdle, supported as an RCM Scholar, having graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2021. Notably, in her final year of undergraduate study, she was one of eight students selected to work with mezzo-soprano Karen Cargill through the Vocal Studies Associate Artist Programme.
Recent performance highlights include the Spring and Summer Opera Scenes at the RCM; firstly as Ernestine in an extract from Offenbach’s Monsieur Choufleuri restera chez lui le… followed by Ginevra in an extract from Handel’s Ariodante. Whilst at the RCS, Emily’s roles in the Opera Scenes performances included Emmie in Albert Herring, Flora in The Turn of the Screw, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, and Madam Herz in Der Schauspieldirektor. Most recently, Emily performed the role of Zerlina in the Brunswick Vocal Arts Highlight selections from Mozart’s Don Giovanni with the Orchestra of Brunswick Vocal Arts at St Paul’s, Knightsbridge conducted by Gary Matthewman.
Emily sings a wide range of repertoire; she has a passion for Baroque music and sang with the RCM Baroque Orchestra as part of the Bach Cantata Project earlier this year. Equally interested in contemporary music, Emily recently performed the world premiere of two works by RCM composers with whom she worked in collaboration. Through her work, Emily is eager to promote female composers/writers, and texts sung in the Scots language. Alongside opera, Emily is extremely fond of poetry and song repertoire; on the concert platform, Emily recently gave an afternoon song recital at the Music in the Mearns concert series in Glasgow with pianist Karolina Kulbakova.
Passionate about music education and trained in the Kodaly method, Emily has taught musicianship with organisations such as the National Youth Choir of Scotland and St Mary’s Music School over the past few years. A keen linguist from a young age, Emily obtained a DELF B2 qualification (Diplôme d’études en langue française) in 2021 as she has a particular affinity with the French language.
