Esther Beard is a graduate mezzo soprano from Cambridgeshire. Esther studied at Birmingham Conservatoire under the tutelage of soprano Cathy Benson during her undergraduate years, and is currently studying under mezzo soprano Louise Crane.
Esther has participated in many operas including Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmelites, Puccini’s Il Trittico and taken on the roles of Malla in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, Marcellina in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro, Elaine in Michael Wolters’ new opera, Ava’s Wedding and most recently as Lady Essex in Britten’s Gloriana. Esther has also been the alto soloist in numerous oratorios such as Handel’s Messiah and Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
During her time at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Esther has been a finalist in the Andrew Downes Prize and the Ashleyan Opera Prize during 2018.
As well as performing, Esther provides private vocal and piano tuition to a number of students and is a resident vocal teacher at Stafford Grammar School. She also teaches up to KS2 in a number of nurseries and schools across the West Midlands.
