Eduard Ferenczi, born on November 28, 1997, has already made a significant mark in the opera world, securing numerous prestigious awards. These include the 1st Prize at Les Nuits Lyriques de l’Hippodrome's Grand Prix de la Voix in 2024, and 3rd Prize at the 36th Edition of the Concours International du Chant Lyrique Les Amis du Belcanto in 2023, held at Théâtre de Béziers. In 2022, he was awarded the Prix du Jeune Espoir at the Grand Prix de la Voix. His early achievements also include the Absolute 1st Prize at the Danubia Talents International Competition in 2021 for singing, the 1st Prize at the Basel International Vocal Competition in 2022, and the 3rd Prize at the London Classical Music Competition, alongside the Alin Stoica Prize, 1st Prize, and Public Prize at the Christmas Exclusive Fest in 2021.
Eduard comes from a family steeped in music, with both his parents being professional musicians. His father is the first violinist at the National Hungarian Opera of Cluj-Napoca, and his mother, a soprano, is a soloist at the Romanian National Opera in the same city. Growing up in this rich musical environment, Eduard was deeply influenced and driven to pursue a professional career in opera.
Eduard's early education was shaped by his passion for piano and singing. He spent 12 years studying piano at the "Sigismund Toduță" Music High School before being accepted into the "Gheorghe Dima" National Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca. There, he excelled in piano and vocal studies, earning his undergraduate degree in 2021 and completing his master’s degree in 2023 with top honors. His dedication and talent earned him an additional scholarship during his studies. As a pianist, he also won several significant prizes, such as 1st Prize at the National Piano Competition "Tinere Talente" in 2013, 3rd Prizes at the International Piano Competition "Irina Șațchi" and the National Piano Competition "Lira de Aur" in 2014.
Eduard made his operatic debut in June 2021 at the Romanian National Opera of Cluj-Napoca, performing Belcore's aria from Donizetti’s opera "L’elisir d’amore." His international career began in 2022 with performances in renowned venues, including the Municipal Theater of Suceava and the State Philharmonic of Târgu-Mureș. He also gave performances at the Nice Opera and participated in prestigious concerts across Europe.
Between 2021 and 2023, Eduard was part of the Young Artist Programme at the Centre d’Art Lyrique de la Méditerranée in Nice, which led to his selection for the young artist programs at the National Opera Academy of Bordeaux (2022-2023) and the Monte-Carlo Opera Academy (2023-2024). His performances in operas like "Dido and Aeneas" and "Carmen Al Andaluz" further solidified his reputation as a rising star.
In the 2024/2025 season, Eduard will perform in roles such as Dancaire in "Carmen," Ajax 2 in "La Belle Hélène," and Figaro in "Il Barbiere di Siviglia." His collaborations with esteemed conductors and artists continue to enrich his growing career.
