Scottish lyric soprano Freya Holliman graduated from the David Seligman Opera School at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in July 2020. She was recently awarded the Janet Price Opera Prize, the Dolan Evans Award for Opera and the David and Phillipa Seligman Award for Excellence.
She studies with Anne Mason and John Fisher.
While still a student, in 2019 she made her Welsh National Opera debut in The Consul by Menotti. She was also twice the soloist for the annual Opera Gala with the Orchestra of WNO conducted by Carlo Rizzi.
In March 2020 due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the RWCMD's scheduled production of Mozart's Così fan tutte was cancelled. However in August she performed the role of Fiordiligi in a filmed semi-staged and socially distanced revival; one of the first operas performed in its entirety post lockdown. She graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music with a Masters degree and a Postgraduate Diploma. She also holds an undergraduate degree in French and Music from the University of Glasgow.
Previous operatic roles include Lady Billows in Albert Herring (RWCMD), Pamina and Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflote (Fife Opera and RNCM), and the title role in Dido and Aeneas (Edinburgh Studio Opera).
On the concert platform, Freya frequently performs in oratorio and concerts across Great Britain. Recent works include Brahms Requiem, Mozart Requiem, Beethoven Mass in C. She also enjoys performing recital programmes of Song and Lieder, and has had the opportunity to work on this repertoire with pianists Julius Drake and Malcolm Martineau.
Freya has much experience working with composers, and exploring contemporary song and operatic repertoire. In 2017 she performed Troubairitz by Tansy Davies at the Wigmore Hall, London.
During her studies, she was grateful for the generous support of The Robertson Trust, The Baird Educational Trust, The Cross Trust, The Leverhulme Trust and The Caird Trust.
