"Professional soloist, Gillian Wells, was generous and brilliant." - Wiltshire and Gloucestershire Standard & The Gazette (2018)
"It was a varied programme which delighted the audience. Last year Gillian impressed with the high quality of her singing, this year was even better and left the audience inspired and spell bound. ... We were expecting a very high standard from them both after last year’s performance – this year’s concert was a sell-out – but they exceeded our expectations. Everyone left uplifted by the quality of music and they were all rewarded for venturing out on a very wet evening."- Wells Journal (2017)
“Beautiful ringing tones from the outset….Excellent diction, always meaningful. Truly exceptional- you make it look so easy- a true mark of the budding professional” - Alison Mary Sutton GGSM, PGCA, RegdT (2014)
“Soprano Gillian Wells…performed with such beauty, skill and humour: her youth captivated; her voice mesmerised… she was utterly, utterly engaging.” -Cotswold Life Magazine (2014)
“You set the mood of this lovely aria with a spine tingling quality of tone, and expressively shaped Italian which would enhance any operatic stage. This was a superbly sung and presented piece of singing and was reminiscent of performances of a ‘Liu’ who sang at the Royal Opera House and had us in tears!” - Barbara Lowe ARAM, LRAM (Hons), FTCL, FLCM, DipRAM (2014)
“She has thrilled us in the past with her angelic voice, stunning looks and warm personality and she lived up to our expectations” – Review South Glos Gazette
Gillian has recently completed her postgraduate vocal studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, under the tuition of Kathleen Ferguson. Gillian also graduated as a soprano on the vocal and opera studies course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in July 2013. She enjoys regularly performing solo recitals and being a guest soloist with choral groups and male voice choirs. Recent highlights include performing the soprano solos in three of Vivaldi’s works, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and the Bach Magnificat. Gillian has also held recitals for the Shipston-on-Stour Music Society and been invited to perform several times as part of the Wells Music Festival.
Gillian recently enjoyed performing the roles of the ‘fox’ in the opera The Cunning Little Vixen and the narrator role of the ‘female chorus’ in The Rape of Lucretia. She also played the colourful character of ‘Madame Kirsten’ in the UK premier of the American opera ‘The Beautiful Bridegroom’ by Dan Shore. Gillian was delighted to be invited to perform as a young artist at Longborough Festival Opera during their 2016 production of Jenufa. Gillian is a versatile performing artist who encourages a forward looking approach to theatre. She has valuable experience in tap, ballet and modern dancing.
Gillian is very grateful to have received the financial support of The Mario Lanza Trust, The South Square Trust, The Winship Foundation, Split Infinitive Trust and The Christopher Treglown Fund, who helped to fund her further studies.
