Mexican mezzo-soprano Gloria Mojica Castillo outscored French soprano Esther Michel-Spragget, mainly due to the range she demonstrated. Despite the vast differences between Mozart and Massenet, it was clear that she felt completely at home in both worlds. In a single performance, she managed to capture the essence of operatic excellence, paving the way for her to easily win first prize at the opening night of the Rajko Koritnik International Competition.
