"Hannah Macaulay sang exquisitely and with great confidence throughout. She exhibited a flexible and bright tone and her inflected ‘pace’ at the end of the first act was perfect." British Soprano, Hannah Macaulay, moved to Cardiff in order to study at the Wales International Academy of Voice under the tutelage of Dennis O'Neill achieving an MA in advanced vocal studies. Prior to this she completed her BMus and MMus in Vocal Studies and Opera at Dublin Institute of Technology Conservatory of Music and Drama, studying with Colette McGahon-Tosh, where she was the winner of the Loius Ely O'Carroll Memorial Prize in 2012.
Hannah possesses a “strong lyric tone while never singing louder than lovely” (Katie Barnes, Wagner Society). She received high acclaim for her performance of Sieglinde in Die Walküre for the Gafa Arts Collective with the Rosenau Sinfonia, having stepped in at short notice, replacing Nadine Benjamin. Hannah remains very grateful to Nadine for trusting her with this role. Other roles include Ortlinde in Die Walküre (Dramatic Voices Program, Berlin), First Lady in The Magic Flute (Flat Pack Music), Tebaldo in Don Carlo (Fulham Opera), Mimi cover in La Bohème (Flat Pack Music) and Amelia young artist in Simon Boccanegra (Fulham Opera).
This year Hannah performed her debut as Lady Macbeth with Bristol Opera in April 2025. With unwavering support and guidance from her teacher Michael Harper and coach Michael Polluck, Hannah was able to bring one of her dream roles to fruition, having first set her sights on Lady Macbeth when performing in the chorus with Opera Ireland in 2009.
Away from the stage Hannah teaches singing in schools, and from her home studio (under the careful guidance of her three feline overlords) and is passionate about enabling her students to find and connect to their voices.
