Norwegian Mezzo-Soprano Ingvild Schultze-Florey studied at the Royal Northern College of Music under the tutelage of Susan Roper and Peter Alexander Wilson. During her studies at the RNCM, Ingvild was supported by the Bergen National Opera and Edvard Grieg Kor’s Unge Stemmer talent programme, and the James and Mary Glass scholarship. In 2017 Ingvild was awarded first class for her Bachelor studies (BMus Hons) and was subsequently awarded a full scholarship (ABRSM) to continue her Masters studies. In 2019 she graduated Master of Music (MMus) with distinction.
During her six years of study at the RNCM Ingvild was the recipient of numerous awards and prizes, including: The Alexander Young Prize for Mozart, Handel, and Schubert, Highly Commended in the Elsie Thurston Prize and was also a finalist in the Joyce and Michael Kennedy Award for the singing of Strauss.
In 2019 Ingvild won the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra’s De Unges Konsert award for outstanding young soloists, comprising of a generous career development scholarship from the Kavli foundation and a solo appearance with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra where she performed Mozart arias and Strauss lieder.
Immediately following her successful solo debut with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in De Unges Konsert, Ingvild was engaged as soloist in the season closing concert of Beethoven 9 conducted by Edward Gardner.
In 2018 Ingvild made her operatic debut singing Mercédès in Carmen for Bergen National Opera, conducted by Stephen Higgins and directed by John Ramster.
Recent and future highlights include the world premiere of Nadja’s Song which was specially commissioned for Ingvild by Bergen National Opera for the Tête à Tête festival in London. Bach Cantatas at the Autunnale Festival in Norway conducted by Paul Agnew, and regular appearances with Edvard Grieg Kor in Bergen, including a recording for CHANDOS in 2018. On the Operatic stage Ingvild performed Jonathan Dove’s Pinocchio at the RNCM and Hermia for British Youth Opera.
On the concert platform Ingvild has performed Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, and Beethoven’s Mass in C in Scotland. Dvorak’s Stabat Mater and Handel’s Messiah in Manchester, Brahms Neues Liebeslieder at Pershore Abbey, Hymn to St Cecilia’s Day conducted by Martin André and Mozart’s C Minor Mass for Collegium Musicum in Bergen.
Future engagements include understudying the role of Annio in Bergen National Opera’s production of La clemenza di Tito.
