Jacinta Barbachano, a graduate of the Faculty of Music at UNAM with honors, studied under maestro Rufino Montero, complementing her vocal technique training with professor Luisa Bezrokova. She has participated in masterclasses with renowned artists such as Javier Camarena, Francisco Araiza, Ramón Vargas, Christa Ludwig, Ailyn Pérez, and Giacomo Argall.
Jacinta has been recognized with a series of prestigious awards throughout her artistic career. Among them, she received the National Symphony Orchestra’s Interpretation Prize for the work Sed de Mar by composer Diego J. Villagrana, which will have its premiere in the 2025 season with the NSO; first place in the Francisco Araiza Singing Competition, a prize that led her to participate in the International Accademia Belcanto Competition in Austria, where she was awarded Best Young Talent. She also won second place and the prestigious “Ópera de Bellas Artes” award at the 36th Carlo Morelli National Singing Competition, as well as second place at the San Miguel Opera Competition (2018), where she also received the prize for Best Interpretation and Style, along with the Audience Award. Jacinta has also stood out internationally, winning second place in the Orfeo Lyrical Singing Competition of the Americas in Costa Rica, as well as in the International Opera Competition of Alcalá de Henares, Spain. It is worth noting that she was the District Winner for Mexico in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2019 and 2020, a prestigious competition organized by the MET Opera.
Her vocal versatility has been showcased on stages in Mexico, the United States, Canada, and Europe, collaborating as a soloist with distinguished conductors such as Srba Dinić, Gustavo Rivero Weber, Iván López Reynoso, Luis Manuel Sánchez, Martin Lebel, Rodrigo Macías, Guido María Guida, José Julio Castillo, among others. She has appeared as a soloist with OFUNAM, OSEM, the Orchestra of the National Opera House, OSX, in prestigious venues such as the Main Hall of the Palacio de Bellas Artes, Sala Nezahualcóyotl, Sala Manuel Covarrubias, Carlos Chávez Hall, Manuel M. Ponce Hall, Sala Tlaqná, Felipe Villanueva Hall, Teatro Macedonio Alcalá, and the Ángela Peralta Theater in San Miguel de Allende, among others.
Jacinta has left her mark in a wide range of operatic roles, from the youthful charm of Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro with the National Opera Company (2018), to the world premiere of the opera Zorros Chinos in the role of Uarhari by Mexican composer Lorena Orozco (2021). She has also performed roles such as Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. In addition, she has excelled in the field of contemporary music, performing works by composers such as Kaija Saariaho and Victor Rasgado.
