Jakob Mahase, is a 29-year-old bass-baritone hailing from Ireland, and has just completed his Masters in Vocal Performance at the prestigious Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien in Austria. Possessing a vibrant, powerful and robust bass-baritone voice, Jakob's repertoire encompasses a diverse range of styles, from the lyrical compositions of Mozart to the commanding power of Wagner. Jakob is a student of acclaimed Austrian Bass-baritone, Kurt Rydl.
Throughout his career, Jakob has performed on many stages across Ireland, The United Kingdom, The United States, Austria and Germany showcasing his talents in numerous productions. Notable highlights include his portrayal of Giugliemmo in Mozart’s "Cosi fan Tutte" with Flatpack Opera in Manchester, as well as his performances with The Blackwater Opera Festival in productions such as "L’Italiana in Algeri" and "Don Pasquale" and "Gianni Schicchi". He has also collaborated with esteemed organizations like the Irish National Opera and was a member of their professional chorus in a variety of projects and later an associated Artist for their Young Artist Scheme.
In addition to his operatic endeavors, Jakob has displayed his versatility as a soloist, delivering captivating performances such as the Baritone Solo in Vaughan Williams' "Five Mystical Songs" and serving as the Bass Soloist in Trinity College Choral Society's rendition of "The St. John Passion" as well as the Bass Soloist in Bachs Weihnachts Oratorium with TU Wien Orchestra, and Bass Soloist for many concerts in Vienna, repertoire included Vaughan Williams "Songs of Travel" and Brahms, "Vier ernste Gesänge "
Jakob's commitment to excellence has led him to further his studies in Vienna, under the guidance of renowned professor Sebastian Vitucci at Die Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst. There, he has participated in notable university productions including the role of Krushina in Smetana's "Die Verkaufte Braut" and Miracle "Les Contes d'Hoffman" showcasing his talents on an international stage.
Jakob's theatrical engagements extended beyond the confines of the University of Vienna, with notable performances including the titular role in Opera Bohemia Wien's rendition of "Don Pasquale."
In 2023, Jakob was both an Emerging Artist at the Institute for Young Dramatic Voices as well as a Wagner Scholar with The American Wagner Society studying under celebrated mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick.
Additionally, he achieved recognition as a semi-finalist in the esteemed Belvedere International Singing Competition of 2024
